This extraordinary real-life memoir is about overcoming obstacles, victory, and defeat, an inspirational family narrative, and a historical trajectory of facts and culture in the US from the 1950s to the present time. There are undertones of a yearning for a return to the more civilized society that baby boomers grew up in. As the wife of the man, who after climbing the corporate ladder for years became the president of Mack Trucks Inc., the author had to uproot four children and move many times. While attending to all of her children who have been involved in every childhood sport imaginable, her main focus was on her youngest with cystic fibrosis, a fatal disease, which requires multiple treatments several times daily. That was an incredulous balancing routine, doling out equal attention to all the children. The extreme highs and lows of life have skewed the family perspective by the trauma of the youngest family member toggling on the tenuous tightrope between life and death. The family learned to never sweat the small stuff as they incessantly waited for the other shoe to drop. Paula's family has greatly appreciated every morsel of happiness, lives awash with triumph and tragedy. When people who live with intense life challenges share similar circumstances with others, they become of one accord, form bonds and intimacy. Paula survived a rife of life-threatening childhood illnesses, a molestation, apathy, and subpar grades in a draconian Catholic school where nun oppression was the rule. It was turned around twenty-five years later when she graduated magna cum laude from Emory University. Paula changed hats often working in airline passenger service, as professional ski instructor, as an older student, as an events planner for the Carter Presidential Center, and as an editorial producer for CNN Atlanta and NYC. They were all happening while relocating residences often, raising four daughters-one with special needs, and volunteering for everything from PTA, Girl Scouts, church, Little League. She also cared for her dying sister for six years and escorted her executive husband to global conferences. Paula rides with Central Park Mounted Patrol and is Gigi (grandma), where life has taught her to Bloom-wherever she has been planted.

Do you believe in fate? Do you believe in miracles? Have you ever experienced a tragedy that you thought would never happen in your normal life? Well, it did happen to two boys one day in April 1990. Soul Uncharred is about how those two boys ended up with scars that would never be healed and the results of a decision that would affect them for the rest of their lives. This story is written by Caper, the older brother. He hopes that by reading this book, he can inspire people to be grateful for what they have in life and simply see and appreciate it in a better light. He also hopes that by sharing his story, he can spread his message of fire safety and prevention so that others might learn from his mistake and thus not repeat it. Caper always felt responsible for making the decision that would change their whole reality. And ironically, Caper would face double, even quadruple, the challenges and difficulties that his younger brother Joey would have to endure. Many of these are problems that most people could never imagine or think twice about-those same people going about their daily lives that could potentially change in an instant like it painfully did for these two boys whose normal childhoods were sadly cut short. Caper's experience as a burn survivor is truly unique and inspiring. From the very beginning, he wasn't expected to survive due to the severity of his burns. Over the years, in countless newspaper articles and news interviews, he has been called the Miracle Boy. With strength, courage, determination, support from all his friends and family over the years, and God, he has overcome the odds. He has always believed he has a purpose in life. At times, that purpose might not always be crystal clear. And sometimes life can be a roller coaster with ups and downs, but he remains grateful and happy to still be a part of this world and alive.

I had been working on a book for quite some time. Finally, I was determined to complete the process. I sent my manuscript to Page Publishing for review and I was notified that my book was approved for publication. I've been working with my Publication Coordinator, Michael Yarnell. Michael has answered all of my many (many, many) questions and has guided me through the entire process. It's great to know that even though I was not familiar with the steps necessary to get my book out for distribution, Page knew what to do and the end result was a happy ending for my endeavor.

Game Changers is a soul revelation of the journey of the author who has lived both sides of life to the extreme and lived to tell the story. An epic rendition of survival about having it all and losing it all, only to regain something more precious than what he had in the beginning: emancipation of the soul. The autobiography follows the author's life from the perspective of a last-born child born to measure up to his siblings. In his very humble and quiet early years, he preferred to stay under the radar in school and society, especially since he was dealing with coming-of-age taboos and questionable sexuality. The quest begins with seeking acceptance and belonging, and this leads to an older family friend taking advantage of the disillusioned teenager, who sexually assaults him repeatedly at the age of fifteen. Mistaking this sexual introduction for love leads to a downward spiral of depression, drinking, and attempted suicide when he realizes it is just "e;boys exploring their sexuality"e; when his advances are unrequited. This evokes a rebellious personality in him, who ends up having to run away from his hometown to Johannesburg after rumors of his questionable sexuality start surfacing among his girlfriends, friends, and family. Johannesburg doesn't only promise a life of sexual freedom but it also unleashes in him an insatiable appetite for the good life he always dreamt of. Within time, he finds himself in the realm of the rich and famous of South African entertainment and stays with South Africa's singing sensation, Brenda Fassie, at one point. A life of wild partying and drugs ensues as everyone enjoys freedom of sexual fluidity that was en vogue in the '90s. Sustaining this kind of lifestyle can be pretty expensive, and this leads to him being introduced to a life of white-collar crimes, valued at over millions combined. One day he receives news that completely changes the course of his life forever, and at that moment, he vows to go on the straight and narrow and find fulfillment out of life. Later, not only does he have to deal with the death of his best friend and celebrity hairdresser, but the best friend's family also opens a case of murder against him, and it becomes a media duck-and-dive mission. The end of the book sees him navigating life and challenges in the United States.

Alexis woke up frightened and looked around for Paul. He wasn't there. Her hand reached out and caressed the empty, cold mat. "e;Paul? Paul?"e; she called out. "e;Where are you?"e; There was no answer. She sat up. Her vision scanned the area around her. Her pumped-up heart skipped a beat. It was still dark outside the makeshift tent that had been home to Paul and her for almost three years, too dark to be blundering around, looking for someone. Tears formed in her eyes. She fell back down in sheer panic, covered her head with the thin blanket, and tried to muffle the sound of her heartbreaking sobs and stop the wet tears that cascaded down her frozen cheeks. She put her throbbing fist in her mouth so no one would hear her. Deep, harsh sobs racked her rigid body just before she fell into a weary sleep, feeling the rats as they pulled at her blanket. Daybreak came. Her eyes popped open. A silhouette from the sun penetrated her crusty eyes. She threw back the blanket, stuck her foot out from under the tent, grimaced, and jerked it back. It was still too cold to get up. But she had to find Paul. She, reluctantly, sat up, crawled out of the tent, and stood looking around. Once again, she called out "e;Paul, Paul, where are you?"e; He wasn't there. Her almost-perfect vision was blurred by the matter that had seeped into her eyes during the night. Her frozen fingers reached up and wiped it away. She crawled back inside, rolled up her blanket, and walked away from her home. The only home she had known for some time. She was now on a journey to find the love of her life. Her search was not in vain. She found him right under her nose. Then her life started, once again, for the second time around. Or so she thought.

Inside this book are written weird tales of the macabre and supernatural, and if you dare to read them, they just might take you to a place you wish not to go. You might find yourself in the mystical land of the Killerpillar. You might suffer the venomous sting of the gruesome Homunculus. You might find yourself shivering in an ancient chair you wish you had never sat down in, for you will find no comfort in those cushions, only the dreadful clutches of doom and a slithering through your soul slowly dragging you to madness. Ever wake up in a strange graveyard? Ever find some curious object and bring it home only to curse the day you found it? Well, the choice is yours. Take it home and read it if you dare, but don't claim you haven't been warned, for madness lurks in deep, dark holes, and evil lives where no man should go. The sliver moon peeks from behind drifting gray clouds, and you swear you saw a set of shining bright eyes watching you from the bushes. But never forget, it doesn't have to be the witching hour or even dark for the creeps to do what they goddamned do.

The book I Am Joe's Heart "e;Attack"e; is a factual and humorous, lighthearted (pardon the pun) story of exactly what occurred to me before during and after the heart attack I suffered. Of course, all is not fun and games. As you will see, there are some sad moments in my life that I would love to forget as well. But as they say, once you live through these things, you simply cannot unlive them. Some facts seem too wild to be true, but I swear they are. Some of the names may have been changed to protect the guilty. I am sure the medical community will not like much of what I say in the book, so I better remain healthy now, or else my next book just might be my obituary. As far as recommendations you read from some of the experts, such as diet and exercise, I tried to follow them as well as I could. But as you will see, it really didn't help me. I hope you find the book as fun and informative as my family has and that you will have a good positive experience with I Am Joe's Heart "e;Attack."e; I hope you enjoy . . . Joe

Imagine being confined to a fortress for sixteen long years, bound not by shackles of steel but by Machiavellian assurances from the most cunning rulers of a troubled kingdom. And at long last, when the cloak of doublespeak begins to fray, threats of swift punishment replace hollow promises. Power and Greed Destroyed the Detroit Public School System tells the tale of the collapse of the Detroit Public School system at the hands of the most powerful people in Michigan government. The method of destruction was like a chess game where kings, pawns, and a queen strategically maneuvered through the school district until the total dismantlement of the school system was achieved. Under the guise of school reform and promises of providing the children of Detroit with an opportunity of a lifetime, these skilled players persuaded unsuspecting employees and students to be willing participants in their own eventual demise. Like the Flint water crisis, government officials chose money over lives, with Detroit children paying the ultimate price. Checkmate.

The night of the ferry boat accident, I heard screams in the dark and rough sea. Sailors were screaming for their lives, and I was the first medical responder on the aft platform that night. I witnessed the deaths of my friends and my shipmates. I had just talked to these guys earlier in the day only to perform CPR on them later that night. I continue to have nightmares about my friends, and I still see them in my dreams. I have what they call PTSD, and I have suffered with this over twenty years now. I didn't realize, but I was screaming mentally for help for years, and I didn't realize it. Screams Overboard is not just about a book of what I heard that night but also about my silent screams for help with PTSD that I didn't realize I had till later in life.
