This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-conference proceedings of the 5th International Conference on Agents and Artificial Intelligence, ICAART 2013, held in Barcelona, Spain, in February 2013. The 20 revised full papers presented together with one invited paper were carefully reviewed and selected from 269 submissions. The papers are organized in two topical sections on artificial intelligence and on agents.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 11th IFIP TC 9 International Conference on Human Choice and Computers, HCC11 2014, held in Turku, Finland, in July/August 2014. The 29 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from numerous submissions. The papers are based on both academic research and the professional experience of information technologists working in the field. This book constitutes the workshop proceedings of the 19th International Conference on Database Systems for Advanced Applications, DASFAA 2014, held in Bali, Indonesia, in April 2014. Hydropneumatic suspensions systems combine the excellent properties of gas springs with the favourable damping properties of hydraulic fluids. The advantages of these systems are particularly appropriate for automotive applications, such as passenger cars, trucks and agricultural equipment. In this book, Dr. Bauer provides an extensive overview of hydropneumatic suspension systems. Starting with a comparison of different types of suspension systems, the author subsequently describes the theoretical background associated with spring and damping characteristics of hydropneumatic systems and furthermore explains the design of the most important system components. Additionally he gives an overview of level control systems and various special functions. Finally the technology is illustrated by design examples and the outlook for future hydropneumatic suspensions is discussed.

Für viele Flüchtlinge sind Inseln oft die ersten sicheren Anlaufstellen nach einer gefährlichen Seefahrt. Und gleichzeitig dienen Inseln seit jeher als Exil oder Gefängnis, vor allem, wenn sie so ¿isoliert¿ waren, dass eine Flucht unmöglich schien. Eigentlich sind Inseln ¿nur¿ von Wasser umgebenes Land. Doch der Begriff kann auch auf Sprach- und Kulturinseln, auf ethnisch oder sozial segregierte Wohngebiete sowie religiös geprägte ¿Inseln der Meditation¿ ausgeweitet werden. Das vorliegende Buch versteht sich als eine ¿kulturgeographische Erkundung¿: Es wählt diejenigen kulturellen, gesellschaftlichen und politischen Aspekte aus, die am Beispiel von Inseln besonders gut veranschaulicht werden können. Physikalische Grundlagen stehen am Anfang der meisten Ingenieur- und Naturwissenschaften bis hin zur Medizin. Dieses Lehrbuch enthält die wichtigsten Grundlagen der Mechanik, Elektrizität, Optik und Wärme sowie exemplarisch einige Fakten der Atom- und Kernphysik. This volume presents a mathematical development of a recent approach to the modeling and simulation of turbulent flows based on methods for the approximate solution of inverse problems. The resulting Approximate Deconvolution Models or ADMs have some advantages over more commonly used turbulence models - as well as some disadvantages. Our goal in this book is to provide a clear and complete mathematical development of ADMs, while pointing out the difficulties that remain. This brief monograph is an in-depth study of the infinite divisibility and self-decomposability properties of central and noncentral Student's distributions, represented as variance and mean-variance mixtures of multivariate Gaussian distributions with the reciprocal gamma mixing distribution. These results allow us to define and analyse Student-Lévy processes as Thorin subordinated Gaussian Lévy processes. A broad class of one-dimensional, strictly stationary diffusions with the Student's t-marginal distribution are defined as the unique weak solution for the stochastic differential equation. Using the independently scattered random measures generated by the bi-variate centred Student-Lévy process, and stochastic integration theory, a univariate, strictly stationary process with the centred Student's t- marginals and the arbitrary correlation structure are defined. As a promising direction for future work in constructing and analysing new multivariate Student-Lévy type processes, the notion of Lévy copulas and the related analogue of Sklar's theorem are explained.

This book presents an agile and model-driven approach to manage scientific workflows. The approach is based on the Extreme Model Driven Design (XMDD) paradigm and aims at simplifying and automating the complex data analysis processes carried out by scientists in their day-to-day work. Besides documenting the impact the workflow modeling might have on the work of natural scientists, this book serves three major purposes: 1. As distinct from other security and cryptography conferences, the Information Security Conference (ISC) 2002 brought together individuals involved in a wide variety of different disciplines of information security to foster the exchange of ideas. The conference is an outgrowth of the Information Security Workshop, first held in Ishikawa, Japan 1997. ISC 2002 was held in Sao Paulo, Brazil, on September 30- October 2, 2002. The Program Committee considered 81 submissions of which 38 papers were accepted for presentation. These proceedings contain revised versions of the accepted papers. The papers provide a representative sample of both the variety and the truly international scope of information security research conducted currently. The topics addressed range from e-commerce protocols to access control and trust management, and to cryptography and cryptographic algorithms. Many people deserve our gratitude for their contribution to the success of the conference. We would like to thank the General Chair, Routo Terada, for overseeing the local arrangements, including registration and maintaining the conference website, and for the smooth running of the conference. We are grateful to Robbie Ye for his expert help in processing the electronic submissions, reviews and acceptance notifications. Historically, one of the basic issues in control systems design has been robustness: the ability of a controlled plant to withstand variations in or lack of knowledge of its dynamics. Even if the dynamics of a system are accurately known for purposes of implementation, it is often desirable to design a control system based on a simplified model. Consequently it is essential to be able to guarantee a reasonable performance not only for the nominal plant, but also for its neighbouring perturbations: this is the issue of robustness. Since the beginning of this decade major advances have been made in this area, notably using the H -approach; this term is meant to cover the solution of sensitivity reduction, approximation and model reduction, robustness and related control design problems using the mathematics of Hardy spaces and related areas in Harmonic Analysis. This book contains the proceedings of the NATO Advanced Research Workshop on "Modelling, Robustness and Sensitivity Reduction in Control Systems", which was held at the University of Groningen, December 1986. Its aim was to explore the development of H -design techniques and its ramifications in Systems Theory in a unified and systematic way with the emphasis on recent advances and future directions in this fast developing area. In particular the following inter-related aspects were addressed: H -mathematical foundations, model approximation and robustness in control design, optimal sensitivity reduction, modelling and system identification and signal processing.

This volume contains the research reports of the Discovery Science pro ject in Japan (No. 10143106),in which more than 60 scientists participated. It was a three-year pro ject sponsored by Grant-in-Aid for Scienti?c Research on Priority Areas from the Ministry of Education,Culture,Sports,Science,and Technology (MEXT) of Japan. This pro ject mainly aimed to (1) develop new methods for knowledge discovery,(2) install network environments for knowledge discovery, and (3) establish Discovery Science as a new area of study in Computer Science / Arti?cial Intelligence. In order to attain these aims we set up ?ve groups for studying the following research areas: (A) Logic for/of Knowledge Discovery (B) Knowledge Discovery by Inference/Reasoning (C) Knowledge Discovery Based on Computational Learning Theory (D) Knowledge Discovery in Huge Databases and Data Mining (E) Knowledge Discovery in Network Environments These research areas and related topics can be regarded as a preliminary d- inition of Discovery Science by enumeration. Thus Discovery Science ranges over philosophy,logic,reasoning,computational learning,and system developments. In addition to these ?ve research groups we organized a steering group for planning,adjustment,and evaluation of the project. The steering group,chaired by the principal investigator of the project,consists of leaders of the ?ve research groups and their subgroups as well as advisors from outside of the pro ject. We invited three scientists to consider Discovery Science and the ?ve above m- tioned research areas from viewpoints of knowledge science,natural language processing,and image processi ng,respectively.

What could be regarded as the beginning of a theory of commutators AB - BA of operators A and B on a Hilbert space, considered as a dis­ cipline in itself, goes back at least to the two papers of Weyl [3] {1928} and von Neumann [2] {1931} on quantum mechanics and the commuta­ tion relations occurring there. Here A and B were unbounded self-adjoint operators satisfying the relation AB - BA = iI, in some appropriate sense, and the problem was that of establishing the essential uniqueness of the pair A and B. The study of commutators of bounded operators on a Hilbert space has a more recent origin, which can probably be pinpointed as the paper of Wintner [6] {1947}. An investigation of a few related topics in the subject is the main concern of this brief monograph. The ensuing work considers commuting or "almost" commuting quantities A and B, usually bounded or unbounded operators on a Hilbert space, but occasionally regarded as elements of some normed space. An attempt is made to stress the role of the commutator AB - BA, and to investigate its properties, as well as those of its components A and B when the latter are subject to various restrictions. Some applica­ tions of the results obtained are made to quantum mechanics, perturba­ tion theory, Laurent and Toeplitz operators, singular integral trans­ formations, and Jacobi matrices.
