'Til 'Y'uv 'erd The Owls'. So the saying goes - in the quaint and historically rich Somerset village of Pill.Tucked away at the mouth of the river Avon, Pill is home to a small, dedicated group of volunteers who have kept alive a Christmas tradition for over a century! As an amateur cartoonist, a career in the Navy was certainly fertile ground for my imagination. This book contains several different series of cartoons that I drew in 1988/89 and were based on my personal observations. Some instances portrayed are true, some are what the 'matelot' wished had happened and some are just examples of my mind wandering off into 'fantasy land' nearly 30 years ago whilst bored at sea.

The Inspector walked very slowly and in a dignified manner up to the window of a car that was indicating left whilst using a hand signal to turn right. "Excuse me, Madam, but did you know that your vehicle is about to divide in two?" "Yes it appears that the nearside of your vehicle is about to turn left whereas the offside is about to turn right. " This is just one of the many amusing, sad, happy, tragic and fascinating observations of Special Constable Dorrinton as he patrolled the streets of Bristol throughout World War Two. His unique eyewitness account describes a city suffering unimaginable tragedy and yet persevering and attempting to continue a 'normal' life. Forty years after these monumental events Dorry sat down and wrote out his story before sending it to Avon and Somerset Constabulary in the anticipation that they may find a use for it.A further thirty years later it was rediscovered in the Bristol City Archives and now, at last, Dorry's story is published for all to share and enjoy.
