El país que guía nuestra reflexión es el reino de Bamoun, situado en la parte occidental de Camerún. Este reino, que nació a finales del siglo XIV, es una de las sociedades del África subsahariana que fue capaz de establecer una brillante civilización y una sólida organización institucional. El análisis histórico de una de sus instituciones, a saber, el ejército real precolonial, pone de relieve las diferentes misiones observadas a través de las grandes batallas libradas antes del periodo colonial, su reestructuración y las múltiples reformas que experimentó a través de dos soberanos principales: el rey Mbuembue Mandù (1757-1817) y el rey Njoya (1884-1931). Los reinados de Nsangù ngùngùre (1863-1876) y Ngbetkom (1814-1817) estuvieron igualmente marcados por grandes acontecimientos que caracterizaron la epopeya y las hazañas militares del ejército bamoun. La organización del cuerpo militar tuvo lugar durante el siglo XIX. El rey Njoya, que accedió al trono en 1884 en un contexto marcado por las guerras civiles y fratricidas, la colonización y el imperialismo, se vio obligado a renovar su ejército para hacer frente a los nuevos retos de seguridad.

The country that guides our reflection is the Bamoun Kingdom, located in the western part of Cameroon. This kingdom, which was born at the end of the 14th century, is one of the societies in sub-Saharan Africa that was able to establish a brilliant civilisation and a strong institutional organisation. The historical analysis of one of its institutions, namely the pre-colonial royal army, highlights the different missions observed through the great battles fought before the colonial period, its restructuring and the multiple reforms it underwent through two main sovereigns: King Mbuembue Mandù (1757-1817) and King Njoya (1884-1931). The reigns of Nsangù ngùngùre (1863-1876) and Ngbetkom (1814-1817) were equally marked by great events that characterised the epic and military exploits of the Bamoun army. The organisation of the military body took place during the 19th century. King Njoya who acceded to the throne in 1884 in a context marked by civil and fratricidal wars, colonisation and imperialism, was forced to renovate his army to face new security challenges.

Este reino, que nasceu no final do século XIV, é uma das sociedades da África subsaariana que conseguiu estabelecer uma civilização brilhante e uma forte organização institucional. A análise histórica de uma das suas instituições, nomeadamente o exército real pré-colonial, destaca as diferentes missões observadas através das grandes batalhas travadas antes do período colonial, a sua reestruturação e as múltiplas reformas por que passou através de dois soberanos principais: o rei Mbuembue Mandù (1757-1817) e o rei Njoya (1884-1931). Os reinados de Nsangù ngùngùre (1863-1876) e Ngbetkom (1814-1817) foram igualmente marcados por grandes acontecimentos que caracterizaram as façanhas épicas e militares do exército de Bamoun. A organização do corpo militar teve lugar durante o século XIX. O rei Njoya que acedeu ao trono em 1884, num contexto marcado por guerras civis e fratricidas, colonização e imperialismo, foi obrigado a renovar o seu exército para enfrentar novos desafios de segurança.

Questo regno, nato alla fine del XIV secolo, è una delle società dell'Africa subsahariana che ha saputo stabilire una brillante civiltà e una forte organizzazione istituzionale. L'analisi storica di una delle sue istituzioni, ovvero l'esercito reale precoloniale, mette in evidenza le diverse missioni osservate attraverso le grandi battaglie combattute prima del periodo coloniale, la sua ristrutturazione e le molteplici riforme subite attraverso due principali sovrani: il re Mbuembue Mandù (1757-1817) e il re Njoya (1884-1931). I regni di Nsangù ngùngùre (1863-1876) e Ngbetkom (1814-1817) furono ugualmente segnati da grandi eventi che caratterizzarono l'epopea e le imprese militari dell'esercito Bamoun. L'organizzazione del corpo militare ebbe luogo nel corso del XIX secolo. Il re Njoya, salito al trono nel 1884 in un contesto segnato da guerre civili e fratricide, dalla colonizzazione e dall'imperialismo, fu costretto a rinnovare il suo esercito per affrontare le nuove sfide della sicurezza.

Das Land, an dem sich unsere Überlegungen orientieren, ist das Königreich Bamoun, das im Westen Kameruns liegt. Dieses Königreich, das Ende des 14. Jahrhunderts entstand, ist eine der Gesellschaften in Subsahara-Afrika, die es geschafft hat, eine brillante Zivilisation und eine starke institutionelle Organisation aufzubauen.
