Consecutive polygamy (as many husbands or wives as you like but only one at a time) is now an accepted norm in contemporary society. Hardly surprising, since the social, legal, moral and financial restraints holding marriages together for a lifetime have been steadily eroded in a relativist age where anything goes. What is surprising is that divorce and remarriage are becoming as common inside the church as outside, even among Christian leaders and especially in the Evangelical stream. Believers have been outspoken about such issues as abortion and homosexuality though their Lord Jesus said nothing about either. He did say quite a lot about the subject of this book but there is either a reluctance to take his teaching at face value or an eagerness to enlarge his ''exception'' until it becomes the rule. This volume primarily appeals to those for whom the Bible is the final authority in all matters of belief and behaviour, especially those who preach to, teach and counsel others. The author believes that the church should be leading the world uphill rather than following the world downhill.

'This is a handbook on spiritual obstetrics, written out of deep concern that so many Christians have been badly 'delivered'. So often, later spiritual disease can be traced back to an inadequate initiation into the Kingdom. A better birth means greater growth in a healthy Christian life.'Basing his study on the New Testament, David Pawson advocates a synthesis of the 'liberal' emphasis on repentance, the 'evangelical' on faith, the 'sacramental' on baptism and the 'pentecostal' on the Spirit. He then relates these 'spiritual doors' to the concepts of conversion and regeneration.THE NORMAL CHRISTIAN BIRTH looks at crucial and controversial texts, challenging traditional interpretations. The ¿nal section on evangelistic counselling questions the adequacy of the typical 'sinner's prayer' approach. Drawing from scripture and experience, David Pawson gives many practical tips on helping potential disciples to repent, believe, be baptised and receive the Spirit.David Pawson has a worldwide teaching ministry, particularly for church leaders. He is known to many through Christian broadcasting and is the author of numerous books.

David Pawson is one of the Church's most highly-regarded leaders and provocative teachers of the last thirty years. As both pastor and preacher he has developed a reputation for prophetic biblical insight, clarity of expression and uncompromising but loving challenge to Christians' hearts and minds.Describing himself as an 'unorthodox evangelical', he has remained faithful to his own vow to be honest with God's Word as revealed in the Bible. no matter what the cost or consequence. This has led on some occasions to clashes with those who have held opposing interpretations of scripture. Not as Bad as the Truth is David's typically honest, fresh and lucid account of his life and teaching. It recalls the in¿ uences and formative moments of his childhood, upbringing and early ministry, and concludes with a portrait of the less familiar man behind the teaching: David's travels, hobbies and interests, and the joys and challenges of family life. But perhaps this book's greatest legacy will be its summaries of the author's most urgent and signi¿ cant theology and his fascinating account of the styles and techniques of preaching.Includes forewords by Sir Cliff Richard and Jennifer Rees Larcombe.

The Challenge of Islam to Christians is David Pawson's most important and perhaps his most sobering - prophetic message to date. Moral decline and erosion of a sense of ultimate truth have created a spiritual vacuum in the United Kingdom. Pawson believes Islam is better equipped than the Church to move into that gap and it is far more likely to become the country's dominant religion in the future. This book unpacks and explains the background behind Pawson's claims. and - crucially - sets out a positive blueprint for the Church's response. Christians must rediscover and demonstrate to society the three qualities that make Christianity unique: Reality. Relationship and Righteousness. This book is essential reading for all Christians.

  • - Freedom not to sin

No one is able to keep all of the laws of the Old Testament - all of the time, not even the holy men of the Old Testament - Moses, King David and others.Jesus himself said that even if you only look at a woman lustfully you have already committed adultery in your heart. Priests and those in leadership within the Church have often been guilty of misusing the laws of Moses by teaching and demanding strict, literal or even excessive conformity to the Old Testament Law. Such practice puts one under the law, and even places the law above the gospel. In his letter to the Galatians Paul teaches that to be a Christian you do not need to be circumcised and that an over emphasis on keeping the laws, including keeping the Sabbath results in legalism and ultimately brings God's Wrath. The opposite of legalism is license - doing whatever you want whenever you want and that you are only responsible to yourself rather than a higher authority. This also brings God's wrath. In this book David Pawson explains how through Christ's death and resurrection, we have been released from the legalism of the Old Testament Laws (which no one is able to keep all of the time), not to do the opposite which will result in sin by doing whatever we please, whenever we want, but through Christ we have been given true liberty ...the liberty to choose not to sin, by walking in the Spirit.

In this companion book to Heaven and Hell, David Pawson continues with the subject of the life to come, which despite being integral to the Christian faith is too often neglected. David considers the biblical teaching on the last things (death, judgment, heaven, and hell) and the challenges posed to the Christian in the modern world. In doing so, he asks penetrating questions such as:What does the Bible teach about resurrection? What happens immediately after death?Did Jesus really go to hell? The book also features interviews with two professionals whose work has brought them face to face with bereavement - a doctor and a funeral director. In response to David's searching questions, they offer candid first-hand accounts and insights about the challenges faced by the Christian in secular work environments and reveal ways in which their faith informs their view of mortality. They also share their observations about the effects of bereavement while revealing how their belief in the life to come provides solace.David also responds to a series of questions from other Christians about the afterlife. In doing so, he goes straight to the heart of the Christian faith, often covering subjects that are overlooked or ignored in churches. Some of his answers may surprise you! This book an invaluable resource for newcomers to the faith and more mature Christians alike.
