Objetivo: Comparar histo-morfológicamente la densidad de mastocitos, el grosor del epitelio y la densidad media de vasos en la encía antes y después de administrar estabilizadores de mastocitos. Entorno y diseño: El presente estudio transversal se realizó en 45 pacientes diagnosticados de periodontitis crónica. Se obtuvieron biopsias gingivales de 45 pacientes categorizados en 2 grupos: grupo 1 antes de administrar estabilizadores de mastocitos y grupo 2 después de administrar estabilizadores de mastocitos. Los grupos se subclasificaron en fumadores y no fumadores. El grosor epitelial, la densidad media de vasos y el número de mastocitos se evaluaron mediante análisis histo-morfométrico. Los resultados de este estudio revelaron que la densidad media de mastocitos y la densidad media de vasos disminuyeron después de administrar estabilizadores de mastocitos en el grupo 2 en comparación con el grupo 1. No hubo diferencias significativas en el grosor del epitelio entre ambos grupos. Conclusiones: Los mastocitos desempeñan un papel crucial en el mantenimiento y la progresión de la enfermedad periodontal, ya que la densidad media de mastocitos era elevada antes de administrar estabilizadores de mastocitos.

Impostazioni e disegno: Il presente studio trasversale è stato condotto su 45 pazienti con diagnosi di parodontite cronica. Le biopsie gengivali sono state ottenute da 45 pazienti classificati in 2 gruppi: gruppo 1 prima della somministrazione di stabilizzatori dei mastociti e gruppo 2 dopo la somministrazione di stabilizzatori dei mastociti. I gruppi sono stati suddivisi in fumatori e non fumatori. Lo spessore epiteliale, la densità media dei vasi e il numero di mastociti sono stati valutati con l'analisi isto-morfometrica. I risultati di questo studio hanno rivelato che la densità media dei mastociti e la densità media dei vasi sono diminuite dopo la somministrazione di stabilizzatori di mastociti nel gruppo 2 rispetto al gruppo 1. Non c'è stata alcuna differenza significativa nello spessore dell'epitelio tra entrambi i gruppi. Os grupos foram sub-categorizados em fumadores e não fumadores. A espessura epitelial, a densidade média de vasos e o número de mastócitos foram avaliados através de análise histo-morfométrica. Os resultados deste estudo revelaram que a densidade média de mastócitos e a densidade média de vasos diminuíram após a administração de estabilizadores de mastócitos no grupo 2, em comparação com o grupo 1. Não houve diferença significativa na espessura do epitélio entre os dois grupos. Aim: To histo-morphologically compare the mast cell density, epithelium thickness, mean vessel density in the gingiva before and after giving mast cell stabilizers. Settings and Design: The present cross-sectional study was conducted on 45 patients diagnosed with chronic periodontitis. Gingival biopsies were obtained from 45 patients categorized into 2 groups: group 1 before giving mast cell stabilizers and group 2 after giving mast cell stabilizers. The groups were sub-categorized as smokers and non-smokers. The epithelial thickness, mean vessel density and number of mast cells were assessed using histo-morphometric analysis. Results of this study revealed that the mean mast cell density and mean vessel density decreased after giving mast cell stabilizers in group 2 compared to group 1. There was no significant difference in the epithelium thickness between both the groups. Conclusion: Mast cells play a crucial role in the sustenance and progression of periodontal disease as mean mast cell density was high before giving mast cell stabilizers.
