In non-technical language, without formulas and equations, but romanticised so that it can be read by those who until now have simply been applying statistics to software, solving exercises with pencil and paper, but know little (or nothing) about how this science, this art, this method and this technology came to be and how it can become an ally in the understanding and performance of every individual, company and institution. As Carlos Fiolhais rightly said, "Today as yesterday, statistics continues to be lightly evoked for everything and nothing, in one area and another... by the way and by the way, often to justify the unjustifiable. Only a scientifically literate citizen... can be warned of the errors and abuses committed in the name of science." Whoops! Dans un langage non technique, sans formules ni équations, mais romancé pour pouvoir être lu par ceux qui, jusqu'à présent, se sont contentés d'appliquer les statistiques à des logiciels, de résoudre des exercices avec un crayon et du papier, mais ne savent pas (ou peu) comment cette science, cet art, cette méthode et cette technologie ont vu le jour et comment ils peuvent devenir un allié dans la compréhension et la performance de chaque individu, entreprise et institution. Comme le disait justement Carlos Fiolhais, "Aujourd'hui comme hier, les statistiques continuent d'être évoquées à la légère pour tout et rien, dans un domaine et dans un autre... au passage et en passant, souvent pour justifier l'injustifiable. Seul un citoyen doté d'une culture scientifique ... peut être averti des erreurs et des abus commis au nom de la science." Oups ! D'un autre côté, nombreux sont ceux qui s'étonnent du chemin parcouru par le passé et des surprises que l'avenir pourrait nous réserver si les chercheurs, les enquêteurs, les enseignants, les étudiants et les utilisateurs s'efforçaient sérieusement d'utiliser les statistiques à bon escient et de les rendre dignes. Le lecteur peut s'initier à cette culture et à cet engagement en découvrant un peu de ce qui est partagé ici. Et qui sait, peut-être serez-vous le prochain statisticien. Bonne lecture !

En un lenguaje no técnico, sin fórmulas ni ecuaciones, pero romantizado para que pueda ser leído por quienes hasta ahora se han limitado a aplicar la estadística a los programas informáticos, resolviendo ejercicios con lápiz y papel, pero saben poco (o nada) sobre cómo surgió esta ciencia, este arte, este método y esta tecnología y cómo puede convertirse en un aliado en la comprensión y el rendimiento de cada individuo, empresa e institución. Como bien dijo Carlos Fiolhais: "Hoy como ayer, la estadística sigue siendo evocada a la ligera para todo y para nada, en un ámbito y en otro... a propósito y a propósito, a menudo para justificar lo injustificable. Sólo un ciudadano científicamente instruido... puede ser advertido de los errores y abusos cometidos en nombre de la ciencia". ¡Vaya! Por otra parte, muchos se asombran de lo lejos que nos ha llevado el pasado y de cómo puede sorprendernos el futuro a medida que investigadores, investigadores, profesores, estudiantes y usuarios trabajen seriamente para hacer un buen uso y dignificar la estadística. El lector puede iniciarse en esta cultura y compromiso conociendo un poco de lo que aquí se comparte. Y quién sabe, tal vez usted sea el próximo estadístico. ¡Feliz lectura!

In un linguaggio non tecnico, senza formule ed equazioni, ma romanzato in modo da poter essere letto da chi finora si è limitato ad applicare la statistica ai software, a risolvere esercizi con carta e penna, ma sa poco (o nulla) di come sia nata questa scienza, quest'arte, questo metodo e questa tecnologia e di come possa diventare un alleato nella comprensione e nelle performance di ogni individuo, azienda e istituzione. Come ha detto giustamente Carlos Fiolhais: "Oggi come ieri, la statistica continua a essere evocata con leggerezza per tutto e per niente, in un ambito e nell'altro... a proposito e a sproposito, spesso per giustificare l'ingiustificabile". Solo un cittadino scientificamente alfabetizzato... può essere avvertito degli errori e degli abusi commessi in nome della scienza". Ops! D'altra parte, molti si stupiscono di quanta strada ci abbia portato il passato e di come il futuro possa sorprenderci se ricercatori, investigatori, insegnanti, studenti e utenti si impegnano seriamente per fare buon uso e dare dignità alle statistiche. Il lettore può iniziare questa cultura e questo impegno conoscendo un po' di ciò che viene condiviso qui. E chissà, forse sarete voi il prossimo statistico. Buona lettura!

In nichttechnischer Sprache, ohne Formeln und Gleichungen, aber so romantisiert, dass es auch von denjenigen gelesen werden kann, die bisher einfach nur Statistik auf Software angewendet und Aufgaben mit Bleistift und Papier gelöst haben, aber wenig (oder gar nichts) darüber wissen, wie diese Wissenschaft, diese Kunst, diese Methode und diese Technologie entstanden ist und wie sie zu einem Verbündeten für das Verständnis und die Leistung jedes Einzelnen, jedes Unternehmens und jeder Institution werden kann. Wie Carlos Fiolhais zu Recht sagte: "Heute wie gestern wird die Statistik für alles und nichts, in dem einen oder anderen Bereich, leichtfertig herangezogen... nebenbei und nebenbei, oft zur Rechtfertigung des Unrechtmäßigen. Nur ein wissenschaftlich gebildeter Bürger... kann vor den Irrtümern und Missbräuchen gewarnt werden, die im Namen der Wissenschaft begangen werden." Huch! Andererseits sind viele erstaunt, wie weit uns die Vergangenheit gebracht hat und wie die Zukunft uns überraschen kann, wenn Forscher, Ermittler, Lehrer, Studenten und Nutzer ernsthaft daran arbeiten, die Statistik sinnvoll und würdig zu nutzen. Der Leser kann diese Kultur und dieses Engagement beginnen, indem er ein wenig von dem kennenlernt, was hier mitgeteilt wird. Und wer weiß, vielleicht sind Sie ja der nächste Statistiker.
