Seminar paper from the year 2017 in the subject English Language and Literature Studies - Literature, grade: 2,3, Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, language: English, abstract: This term paper analyses Adam Thorpe¿s Hodd, a historical novel published in 2009, a supposedly Latin translation of an allegedly lost Middle English manuscript that fundamentally changes the image of Robin Hood. Adam Thorpe uses different techniques to achieve authenticity with his novel, but there are also traits neglecting the reliability of his narration. First these techniques and their function will be analysed and then the focus will shift to Linda Hutcheon¿s postmodernist genre of historiographic metafiction which redefined the use of historical material in fiction and the meaning of literature for history in the 1960s questioning whether Hodd is a novel which uses historiographic metafiction. The last part will sum up the findings and embed the topic in a broader context.

Dafür werden Forschungsberichte seit 2013 in die Untersuchung miteinbezogen und auf folgende Hypothesen geprüft: 1. Scaffolding vereinfacht den Wissenserwerb, 2. Je mehr Scaffolding eine Lehrkraft oder ein digitales Medium bietet, desto mehr lernen die Schülerinnen und Schüler und 3. Digitales Scaffolding ist dem konventionellen in Bezug auf den Wissenserwerb überlegen. Die Auswertung der Forschungsliteratur hat gezeigt, dass Scaffolding in jedem Fall den Wissenserwerb vereinfacht. Die Forschungsliteratur lässt zudem vermuten, dass je mehr Scaffolding eine Lehrkraft verwendet, desto mehr lernen die Schüler. Dies kann aber nicht eindeutig durch die Forschungsliteratur bewiesen werden, da es keine Vergleichsgruppe gibt. Des Weiteren lässt sich sagen, dass digitales Scaffolding dem konventionellen in Bezug auf den Wissenserwerb überlegen ist, auch wenn hierbei ein direkter Vergleich zwischen beiden Formen des Scaffolding anhand der Literatur nicht möglich ist. Digitale Medien vereinfachen also das Scaffolding und Schülerinnen und Schüler lernen mehr, wenn ihnen Scaffolding mit digitalen Medien geboten wird. ¿

What makes it even harder is that the combination of first and last name needs to sound good as well. Given the fact that the last name is usually unchangeable and fixed at birth, parents want to find a first name that fits the last name with regard to word length, vowels, consonants, rhyming and rhythm. These choices often happen unconsciously and perhaps the feeling for a well-sounding name is partly determined by our cultural socialisation.In this paper combinations of first and last names will be analysed. A data set of 214 names will be examined from a linguistic point of view with the aim of finding the best combination for a euphonic name and identify underlying patterns. The analysis will show that English parents are very conservative when it comes to the sound patterns of their children¿s names.

Essay aus dem Jahr 2009 im Fachbereich Theaterwissenschaft, Tanz, , Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: There may be three things that shape the identity of the Armenian Diaspora and the Armenian people: the food, the music, and most importantly the remembrance of the Armenian Genocide in 1915. The genocide is present in music, literature, and movies. During the 20th century, Armenian playwrights have rediscovered the topic for the theatre and were thus able to bring the genocide back into the mind of both Americans and Armenians. This paper analyses William Rolleri¿s and Anna Antaramian¿s play The Armenian Question, published in 1977. The play embeds real interviews and experiences of genocide survivors in a fictitious hearing which takes place in the 1970s while the world is suffering a devastating famine. A Turkish general wants the board to raise the food ratio for the Turkish people and meanwhile the board interrogates genocide survivors who in compensation strife for justice. In the play the conflict between the Turkish General and the Armenian witnesses is representative for the conflict between Turkey and Armenia. The fictitious setting of the play functions as a background for the message, namely that Armenians strive for justice against the Turkish government and that they want Turkey to name it a genocide. The text is a hybrid genre between reality and fiction, but the key point is that the drama wants to inform people about the cruelties which have happened in 1915. Linda Hutcheon has coined the term of ¿historiographic metafiction¿ for novels which are situated in the past with fictitious elements. There can be different levels of reality and truth is continually negotiated. Although this term so far has only been applied to novels, I¿d like to argue that there is an equivalent in The Armenian Question, which also plays with the perception of reality. Firstly, the genre of the documentary theatre is being outlined. Secondly, there will be an introduction to the concept of historiographic metafiction. Subsequently, a close reading of the play will be performed and lastly, the findings will be summed up in a conclusive statement.

Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2017 im Fachbereich Theologie - Historische Theologie, Kirchengeschichte, Note: 1,7, Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Diese Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit Christian Karl Josias von Bunsen und seinem Wirken für die Gründung eines englisch-preußischen Bistums in Jerusalem. Der König von Preußen Friedrich Wilhelm IV. wollte das Los der Christen in Palästina verbessern und beauftragte seinen Freund, den Diplomaten Bunsen mit dieser Aufgabe. Bunsen reiste kurze Zeit später nach Großbritannien und begann die Verhandlungen mit den religiösen und politischen Köpfen des Landes. Die vorliegende Arbeit soll den gesamten Verlauf der Verhandlungen zusammenfassen. Zuerst wird auf die Biographie von Christian Karl Josias von Bunsen eingegangen und im weiteren Verlauf wird chronologisch das Jahr der Verhandlungen (1841) durchgearbeitet, um einen Gesamtüberblick über den Ablauf zu haben. Des Weiteren soll nach den Verhandlungen auch auf die Kritik am Bistum von Jerusalem sowohl auf preußischer Seite als auch auf englischer Seite eingegangen werden, um mit diesen Informationen ein vollständiges Bild von dieser Zeit zu haben.
