Programming with C#.NET is designed for students who have already been introduced to programming and who are familiar with basic program structures. By working through the example programs in this book, students will gain an understanding of basic interface construction, processing and database operations in an object oriented Visual Studio 2013 C#.NET environment. Programs demonstrate: the use of multiple forms and passing data values between forms, creating interactive forms by adding screen components at run-time, file handling operations for a multiple table database including use of SQL queries, storing images in a database table, and using an object oriented approach to representing entities in a data model.

This book presents examples of numeracy applications developed in a wide range of courses in a Further Education college in Wales. The numeracy case studies are not limited to simple arithmetic and tasks involving shape and space, but include more advanced topics such as: statistical analysis, mathematical modelling, calculus and design of algorithms. A broad definition of numeracy is adopted by the authors, in line with the range of numeracy skills expected and valued by employers. In addition to a knowledge of mathematical techniques, numeracy is considered to include: problem solving, especially in the design of solutions to non-routine tasks; communication of mathematical results in formats which are suitable for the intended audience and facilitate decision making; an ability to use computer technology to collect and process data; and a familiarity with number which allows appropriate levels of accuracy to be chosen, estimates made and errors detected.

The purpose of this book is to provide a simple introduction to Java programming with the NetBeans Integrated Development Environment. The book has been designed for students who are undertaking the two year WJEC A-level course in Computer Science. The objective is to produce simple example program applications which illustrate a range of theoretical concepts, such as: abstract data structures, object oriented programming, random access and indexed sequential files, and batch processing by sequential update. Web Applications with C#.ASP is designed for students familiar with C#.NET programming for stand-alone applications, and who wish to develop skills in producing interactive web applications. By working through the example programs, students will gain an understanding of basic interface construction, processing and database operations in an object oriented C#.NET environment. The book includes: ¿Comparison of programming techniques for stand-alone and web applications. ¿Creating interactive forms. ¿Setting up a database table, accessing the database, and displaying the data on a web page. ¿Creating a multi-page web site with a menu system. ¿Storing images in a database. ¿Use of the calendar component. ¿An object oriented approach. The final two projects, Hardware store and Canal boat holidays, bring together techniques developed in earlier chapters. Extensive use is made of database operations to handle customer data with an emphasis on object oriented methodology.
