He served on the staff of the Christian Union, eventually becoming its associate editor. Considering his exceptional career as an essayist and critic, he also edited a number of anthologies for children. Other works include: Norse Stories Retold from the Eddas (1901), Legends Every Child Should Know (1906) and Heroes Every Child Should Know (1908).
