Shortly after the death of Scottish evangelist and scholar Henry Drummond, his family celebrated his life by publishing this collection of his sermons, prefaced with memorials by evangelist W. Robertson Nicoll and theologian Ian Maclaren. Drummond addresses such topics as the nature of Christ, human sin and guilt, and salvation, and he suggests ways in which Christians can lead lives that are pleasing to God. Although determining the will of God for one's life can often seem difficult, Drummond stresses the importance of prayer in listening for God's voice and discerning His leading. Especially admired by young people during his life, Drummond's warm character shines through in these heartfelt messages. Henry Drummond (1851-1897) was a Scottish evangelist, biologist, writer, and lecturer, best known for his influential work in Christian apologetics and his essay "The Greatest Thing in the World.

Natural Philosophy " is a work by Scottish writer and evangelist Henry Drummond. Within it, Drummond explores the connections between the world of religion and spirituality, and the physical world. He maintains that the ostensible dichotomy between the spiritual and the physical is in fact illusory, and that faith is actually aligned with science. Published only a few decades subsequent to Darwin's landmark "On the Origin of Species", Drummond's attempt to reconcile evolution and God constitutes one of the most significant books related to Christian faith and scientific progress. Contents include: "Religion", "Analysis of Introduction", "Biogenesis", "Degeneration", "Growth", "Death", "Mortification", "Eternal Life", "Environment", "Conformity to Type", "Semi-parasitism", "Parasitism", "Classification". Rev Prof Henry Drummond (1851-1897) was a Scottish biologist, evangelist, lecturer, and writer. He had a considerable religious influence on his own generation, and his sermon "The Greatest Thing in the World" is still popular within Christian circles. Other notable works by this author include: "Natural Law in the Spiritual World" (1883), "Tropical Africa" (1888), and "The Greatest Thing in the World: an Address" (1890). Many vintage books such as this are becoming increasingly scarce and expensive. It is with this in mind that we are republishing this volume now in an affordable, modern, high-quality edition.

Eternal Life is a fascinating religious philosophy book by Henry Drummond that deals with the subject of future life. Henry Drummond FRSE FGS (17 August 1851 - 11 March 1897) was a Scottish evangelist, biologist, writer and lecturer. Many of his writings were too adapted to the needs of his own day to justify the expectation that they would long survive it. His sermon "The Greatest Thing in the World" remains popular in Christian circles. In 1877 he was lecturer on natural science in the Free Church College on Lynedoch Street in Glasgow, which enabled him to combine all the pursuits for which he felt a vocation. Drummond advocated for theistic evolution. His studies resulted in his writing Natural Law in the Spiritual World, the argument being that the scientific principle of continuity extends from the physical world to the spiritual. Before the book was published in 1883, an invitation from the African Lakes Company took Drummond to Central Africa.

Henry Drummond was a Scottish scientist, Free Church minister, explorer and evangelist who became one of the most influential religious figures of the Victorian era. Written as a means of clarifying his own thoughts on the clash between science and religion, Natural Law and the Spiritual World was published in 1883 to great critical acclaim. Entering the debate on science and religion using the basis of law, Drummond sets himself apart by offering 'a property peculiar neither to science nor religion'. He puts forward the argument that the laws of the natural and spiritual worlds are not completely separate, and explores the connections between them. He concludes by suggesting that the scientific principle of continuity extends from the physical world to the spiritual, offering common ground to people on both sides of the science/religion divide.

The Lowell Institute in Boston, Massachusetts, founded in 1836, supports an annual series of distinguished lectures. Henry Drummond, the influential Scottish scientist, Free Church minister, explorer and evangelist published his Lowell Lectures as The Ascent of Man in 1894. This provocative book examines Darwinism in a Christian context. It describes the rise of man, who is considered the highest purpose of the universe, and his relations with the lower animals. In particular, it addresses the question of altruism and its role in promoting the survival of the fittest, which Drummond argues had been overlooked. Drummond claims, unlike traditional evolutionary theory, that the force of evolution is not only the struggle for life, but also the struggle for the life of others. His book, which aroused great interest in its time, remains of importance for historians and philosophers of science today.
