Henry Ellis (1721-1806) war ein britischer Forscher, Autor und Kolonialpolitiker. In den Jahren 1746 und 1747 nahm er jeweils an der britischen Expedition an Bord der Dobbs Galley und The California zur Entdeckung der Nordwestpassage teil. Die Expeditionen blieben zwar erfolglos, aber Ellis schrieb ein Buch darüber mit dem Titel Voyage made to Hudson's Bay in 1746, by the Dobbs Galley and The California, to discover a Northwest Passage. Es ist ein seltener Bericht über die britischen, von William Moor geführten Expeditionen in die Hudson Bay, der auch der Annahme, daß eine Nordwestpassage durch die Hudson Bay führt, ein Ende setzt. Das Buch ist in drei Teile gegliedert: frühe Erkundungen vor 1746, die Reise von 1746-47 und wissenschaftliche Informationen über die Wahrscheinlichkeit der Existenz der Passage zwischen den beiden Ozeanen.
