This book explores the actual process of mediation operation in the translation process and the interaction between mediation and social structure. It defines mediation in translation in a parameterized manner, characterizing the linguistic properties of mediation for ease of mediation identification. On this basis, it puts forward an integrated systematic approach to map out mediation operation at the text level and discuss the interactive relationship between mediation and social structure, with a view to unveiling how the source text is altered for the purpose of power balance in the translation process. This book can make researchers who engaged in shield tunneling to get experiences and lessons from it, so as to make the right decision during shield type selection, standardize shield tunneling, take proper action, avoid or reduce construction risks, and minimize casualties and property losses.

To shorten the duration and cost of construction, identifying the number of floors supported by scaffolds is necessary to construct a multi-story building with the floors of long-span open-web sandwich slab. This study proposes a favorable method of two-stage construction support floors, the stages I and II, by establishing their finite element models that consider the effect of the horizontal tube constraining the upright tube in scaffolds. In addition, comparison of the two modeling results with field-measured data shows that for an open-web sandwich floor slab whose span is ¿24.00m, only the full-hall supports of the floor can be retained if its lower floor is the basement roof; otherwise, the full-hall supports should be retained both on this floor and its lower one. When the span of the floor slab is 39.00m and if the span of the lower two floors slab is ¿24.00m, reaching the concrete design strength, then the full-hall supports should be retained on this floor and the lower floor, and partial re-supports should be applied to the second lower floor.
