"…A well written interesting children's book, but its adventures are so wonderful and so quaintly told that many a parent who would buy the book as a Christmas present for his children would be beguiled into reading it for his own amusement…" -Sacramento Bee, 1890sBaron Trump's Marvellous Underground Journey by INGERSOLL LOCKWOOD, with illustrations by Charles Howard Johnson, is a mixture of travel adventure, science fiction, and fantasy. Published in 1893, it became one of Lockwood's most popular works together with his other children's book The Travels and Adventures of Little Baron Trump and His Wonderful Dog Bulger, published in 1890. In 2017, when almost all the news deals with the Trump presidency, The Travels and Adventures of Little Baron Trump drew attention due to its uncanny connections with President Trump and his family. The book's main character, Baron Trump, is a wealthy boy with abnormal strength living in Castle Trump, and just like President Donald Trump, is of German heritage. What makes the story even more remarkable is that Baron Trump is guided by "the master of all masters," a man named "Don," to start his voyage to Russia. Even stranger, in Lockwood's final novel, The Last President (1896), New York City fears the collapse of the republic in 1900 after the transition of presidential power and Americans protest a corrupt election process. Are these books a bizarre coincidence or are they prophetic? Let the reader decide.

Complete and unabridged with all original illustrations. The Collected Works of Ingersoll Lockwood: The Baron Trump Novels & 1900; Or, The Last President, have seen a resurgence in interest since Donald Trump's election to President of the United States in 2016. All of these titles were written before the turn of the 20th Century, but both contain eerie similarities with modern day political events. For the first time, all the works are presented in a single volume so readers can decipher for themselves whether Lockwood's words were a telling of things to come, or just a curious coincidence of American literature. In the 1890s, Ingersoll Lockwood authored a series of children's books about the escapades of his character, the young Baron Trump: Travels and Adventures of Little Baron Trump and his Wonderful Dog Bulger, and Baron Trump's Marvellous Underground Journey. The series followed a literary trend of the time, which had child protagonists adventuring to enchanted lands and encountering fantastic beings. Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland, and L. Frank Baum's The Wonderful Wizard of Oz are two famous examples of this genre.Lockwood's Baron is an aristocratic youth bored with his life of luxury in Castle Trump. Searching for adventure, Baron travels to Russia to discover an underground world beneath his feet. He journeys downward and finds himself lost in peculiar settings surrounded by the strange inhabitants of this new world. The stories follow his adventures and eventual struggle to find his way back to the surface he left behind. The Baron Trump novels were obscured by the more successful children's books of the time. Lockwood's tall tales seemed destined for the literary dust bin, but the election of Donald Trump in 2016 renewed interest in these works due to the President's youngest son's name: Barron Trump. Now, back in print, the Baron Trump series is enjoying considerable interest and success. In 1900; Or, The Last President, Ingersoll Lockwood paints a picture of a politically charged New York City, where a political outsider has overcome stiff opposition to be elected President of the United States. Mob rule threatens, and marching protests rove up and down Fifth Avenue. The scene is an uncanny reflection of what happened as Donald Trump spent his days as President Elect holed up in Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue as he awaited his inauguration.

2019 Reprint of 1892 Edition. Full facsimile of the original edition, not reproduced with Optical Recognition software. Illustrated facsimile of the original edition first published in 1893. Baron Trump's Marvelous Underground Journey remained an obscure work until 2017 when it received media attention for perceived similarities between its protagonist and U.S. President Donald Trump. The novel recounts the adventures of the German boy Wilhelm Heinrich Sebastian Von Troomp, who goes by "Baron Trump", as he discovers weird underground civilizations, offends the natives, flees from his entanglements with local women, and repeats this pattern until arriving back home at Castle Trump. In July 2017 the books were rediscovered by Internet forum users, and then the media, who pointed out similarities between the protagonist and U.S. President Donald Trump, whose son is named Barron Trump. Jaime Fuller wrote in Politico that Baron Trump is "precocious, restless, and prone to get in trouble", often mentions his massive brain, and has a personalized insult for most people he meets. Chris Riotta noted in Newsweek that Baron Trump's adventures begin in Russia. Hence the renewed interest in the works of this obscure American children's books author.

2019 Reprint of 1896 Edition. Full facsimile of the original edition, not reproduced with Optical Recognition software. In this work Lockwood creates an alternate history of the United States that puts William Jennings Bryan in power, and in which Bryan immediately took America off the gold standard. Mob actions and political chas follows. Prescient for those unhappy with the 2016 election; the issues are entirely different, but the turmoil seems similar.

This little booklet was penned at the end of the 19th century, and ostensibly involves events mere years later. A work of political satire, it chastises the rise of socialism and populism, inferring their fictional rise here as disastrous and leading to chaos. It is of note here that this work, along with others by Lockwood, appear to prognosticate the current political climate of the United States and West at large- and for an apparent religious Catholic of his era, it is not altogether impossible that Lockwood- wittingly or unwittingly- tapped into some mystic forces. Regardless, it is an interesting little political story from its time and is reflective of some of the social ideologies and movements of the age.

Ingersoll Lockwood?s patriotic and biographical stage drama takes place immediately before, during and amid the aftermath of the American War of Independence. The initial scenes take place in the household of George Washington. First through the words of his servants, we are introduced to the man who led the American rebellion against the British. Staking his prosperous life on the cause, Washington is shown to be a family man of noble spirit, immensely devoted to his proud mother and his doting wife, as well as the slaves who maintain his household. As the war commences, the harsh and bloody realities of skirmishes are matched with the resolve of Washington and his generals. In perhaps the most emotionally charged passages of the drama, Washington is informed of the betrayal of Benedict Arnold. Shocked, aghast, distraught and initially in denial at the treason of a friend he?d so trusted and admired, Washington steels his spirit to recognize the horrible truth.
