Romanticism flew over European literature to create a new stage in the history of European and World literature. Romanticism was able to initiate literary processes in many European and non-European countries. However, the common-aesthetic boundaries, characteristic of Romanticism, were always considerably corrected by the real historical boundaries (Herder), which, above all, implied the peculiarities of the national space, specific historical, cultural and linguistic manifestations. Georgian literature was valuably included in this process. The poetry of prominent Georgian Romantic poet Nikoloz Baratashvili not only reflects essential aesthetic principles characteristic of European and World Romanticism but combines them with the idea of national self-awareness and traditions, which expands the geographic map of Romanticism in the direction of the Georgian national literary model. Presented book is a selection of papers, which were presented at the International Symposium dedicated to the issues of Romanticism and involvement of Georgian literature in this process.

The book deals with the problem of anti-utopian way of thinking in literature and its variations in the 20th century. It offers a comprehensive analysis of Vladimir Nabokov's Invitation to a Beheading and Bend Sinister, and Jakho's Dispossessed by Mikheil Javakhishvili.

The book deals with the reception of Georgian national literature in the context of the world literary process. It depicts the place of Georgian literature on the world literary map, starting from Middle Ages and going through the different periods including the Soviet and Post-soviet epochs.
