The stakes are even higher when his family relocates to suburban Boston in the spring of 1975: Jay is about to become a teenager. Problem is, he's a late bloomer (a fact his mother reminds him of constantly). Despite the awkwardness of adolescence, Jay settles into his new environment on Moss Hill Road, making friends with the neighborhood "guys" and hanging out at their makeshift ball field every chance he gets. In particular, he forms a brotherly bond with the group's ringleader, Paul, while also pledging allegiance to all things Boston...especially the surging Red Sox. Soon, however, life throws Jay one curveball after another. He must cope with the fallout from his first crush, peer pressure, family secrets, and loss. As Jay witnesses the darker side of human nature, the more isolated and cynical he becomes. He wonders where he fits in and what the future holds. A familiar face soon sparks Jay's passion, however, fueling motivation to bring out the best in himself. With guidance from those he holds near and dear, he realizes that his first love, baseball, may hold the key. A determined young adult, at last, he makes a stand for all that matters to him.
