Model owrzodzenia wywo¿anego stresem przy u¿yciu a) Pomiar wskänika wrzodów, b) Ocena zawarto¿ci ¿luzu w ¿cianie ¿o¿¿dka i 4. Wrzód ¿o¿¿dka wywo¿any aspiryn¿ model pomiaru wskänika wrzodowego. Dziäanie przeciwwrzodowe i cytoprotekcyjne selenometioniny i leku referencyjnego Cemetidine u szczurów badano w zwalidowanych powy¿ej modelach wrzodów ¿o¿¿dka po ¿¿danym okresie podawania leku. W ramach tej pracy opracowano now¿ cz¿steczk¿ ochronn¿ dla ¿o¿¿dka.

Molluscan fisheries, constituted by bivalves, gastropods and cephalopods account for 11.6% of the world aquatic production. Mussels are widely distributed in tropical and temperate conditions, found typically attached to hard substratum with their byssus threads, in the intertidal and subtidal zones. This thesis encompasses the study on temporal and spatial variations in selected physicochemical parameters of the mussel beds along Dakshina Kannada, Karnataka, India. It deals with the investigations on selected trace metals and organochlorine pesticides in the shellfish waters, their bioaccumulation in the soft tissue of green mussels and the biomarker response in the mussels.Extent of faecal contamination of mussel beds is also presented. Results of the study indicate that organochlorine pesticides and trace metals in the shellfish waters of the study area were very low with the concentrations below the detectable limit and they are unlikely to result in any significant environmental imapacts on the health of the green mussel in the near future.

The present work deals with the antisecretory and gastroprotective effect of selenomethionine in swiss albino rat system by using 1. 4 hour Pylorus ligation model for antisecretory activity using the following pathophysiological and biochemical parameters in gastric juice and gastric mucosa a) Ulcer index measurement of the glandular portion of the stomach, b) Measurement of volume, pH, free and total acidity, peptic activity, DNA content of the gatsric juice and c) Total protein, carbohydrate estimation in gastric juice and gastric mucosa, 2. ethanol induced gastric ulcer model using a)Ulcer index measurement,b) Gastric wall mucous content estimation and c)Lipid peroxide level estimation, 3. stress induced ulcer model using a) Measurement of ulcer index, b)Estimation of gastric wall mucus content and 4. Aspirin induced gastric ulcer model of ulcer index measurement. Antiulcer and cytoprotective effect of Selenomethionine and reference drug Cemetidine in rats are studied in the above validated gastric ulcer models after a desired period of drug administration. This work works at the development of a novel gastroprotective molecule.

This book focusses on the pharmacological and toxicological investigations of Saraca indica (Family :Caesalpiniaceae) , a well known plant in the Indian traditional medicinal system. The present investigation deals with the toxicological and biochemical evaluation of the alcoholic extract of bark of Saraca indica through acute and subacute toxicity studies. Also, The antidepressant and oestrogenic activities were evaluated. In addition, genotoxic assays were carried out to assess the effect of Saraca indica bark extract in swiss albino mice.
