Defending the Good Society - The Assault on Order, Justice, and Freedom The good society is inhabited by a people who have constructed and maintain a high degree of moral and social order founded upon and held together by the glue of eternal truths, norms, human universals, mores and traditions, distant voices of the past, and most importantly faithfulness to God and the prescriptions of the Bible. In such a society will be found a high degree of order, justice, and freedom. It is at this point that many non-Christians who approve of and value the attributes and provisions of the good society will reject the God of the Bible as the fountain of truth from which the good society must draw its pattern and sustenance. But that cannot be as will be shown throughout this book. Any source other than God's perfect truth as shown in His creation and revelation to the ancient Israelites and first century Christians is less than perfect. Over the course of time, that source will be revealed as flawed and inevitably lead to disorder and disintegration of any society based on imperfect truth. I ask that that the skeptic continue reading and reserve judgment on this point until the end of the book. This book's hypothesis is that the ongoing efforts to destroy the good society are a consequence of applied humanism as it is imposed on the everyday life of Americans in the grip of forced equality. The dominant humanistic concept of forced equality is disintegrative because of its nature and presents not only a false philosophy and view of the world but is doing significant if not fatal damage to American society and the world. From these premises and perspective, the author has titled this book Defending the Good Society - The Assault on Order, Justice, and Freedom.

The only hope for America is the Church, and the only hope for the Church is true revival. Revival is the only event that can avert spiritual disaster for the Church and turn a nation back to God. An evangelical revival or awakening occurs when there is an outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon the body of Christ (the Church) which brings about a revival of New Testament Christianity. A general moral and spiritual awakening in America will not happen unless it comes through a revived Church that gets out of the pulpits and pews and engages the culture and government in the public square. Such a move of God will bring spiritual revival, renewed purpose, and restored blessings to His people and the nation.

The purpose of writing Ye shall be as gods was to diagnose and illuminate the causes of the cultural disquiet that is and has been pervasive in American life for the last half century. The book provides a comprehensive overview of the source of the anger, frustration, and sense of helplessness as Americans see the Judeo-Christian ethic upon which the nation was founded come under relentless attack in the institutions of American life. Americans are angry, and this anger is often expressed in a scatter-shot resistance to what they perceive is happening in American society. They know that something is systemically wrong with America's institutions and direction, and they see and recognize the symptoms but can't diagnose the single disease that has metastasized throughout the American cultural vision. That disease is humanism and its many children (progressivism, naturalism, liberalism, etc.). The book focuses on root causes of the humanist-Christian culture wars but also connects those causes to the topical moments about which Americans read in the newspapers and magazines; listen to on broadcast media; and experience in the home, workplace, and culture at large. Humanism is the world's second oldest religion. It began with the serpent's first whispered words to Eve, "Ye shall be as gods..." It stands in opposition to the eternal truths built into the foundations of creation and the revelation of those truths to the ancient Hebrews and first century Christians. The book chronicles how the institutions of American life-religion, government, politics, economics, education, physical and human sciences, family, and popular culture (arts and the media)-have been systematically and substantially captured by the humanistic worldview. Because of this battle of worldviews, twenty-first century America is a divided nation. Although most Americans still hold to the central cultural vision of the Founders, much of the leadership of America's institutions embrace the humanistic philosophy that stands in opposition to the beliefs of its people, and the results are the escalating culture wars that permeate every facet of American life. Without an understanding of humanism's tenets, their connection to our modern miasma, and the application of a prescriptive remedy necessary to counteract humanism's unrelenting assault, the central cultural vision under which the nation was founded will be forever lost.

This book contains fifty-five articles originally published in CultureWarrior.net over a period of three years. Each of these spheres produces seemingly unrelated instances of cultural conflict. Yet, it is in the accumulation of such present-day moments of conflict that we gain an understanding and direction of the cultural drift. From a consistent and thoughtful examination of these topical moments, we may clearly define the reasons for "why we fight" in the raging culture wars.
