Ficus section Pharmacosycea (Moraceae) are neotropical, terrestrial trees (rarely hemiepiphytes), distributed from northern Mexico to northern Argentina, characterized by a pair of glands in the axil of the basal secondary vein, bitter latex, monoecious, axillary, solitary inflorescences (rarely in pairs), with three epibracts and staminate flowers with two stamens. It is divided into three subsections: Carautaea, hemiepiphytic plants when young and petiole with non-decaying periderm; Petenenses, terrestrial and petiole with decaying periderm; and Bergianae terrestrial and petiole with non-decaying periderm. To review the taxa, all the protologues and types were analyzed, more than seven thousand materials from South American, North American and European herbaria were studied to compare morphological characters, and collections were made in the areas where natural populations occur. The work resulted in 35 species of Ficus sect. Pharmacosycea, all described and with materials examined. A taxonomic key was drawn up to determine the taxa.

Les Ficus de la section Pharmacosycea (Moraceae) sont des arbres terrestres néotropicaux (rarement hémipiphytes), distribués du nord du Mexique au nord de l'Argentine, caractérisés par une paire de glandes à l'aisselle de la veine secondaire basale, un latex amer, des inflorescences monoïques, axillaires, solitaires (rarement par paires), avec trois épibractes et des fleurs staminées à deux étamines. Elle est divisée en trois sous-sections : Carautaea, plantes hémipiphytes à l'état jeune et pétiole à périderme non décomposé ; Petenenses, terrestres et pétiole à périderme décomposé ; et Bergianae terrestres et pétiole à périderme non décomposé. Afin de réviser les taxons, tous les protologues et types ont été analysés, plus de sept mille documents provenant d'herbiers sud-américains, nord-américains et européens ont été étudiés afin de comparer les caractères morphologiques, et des collectes ont été effectuées dans les zones où se trouvent les populations naturelles. Les travaux ont abouti à la description de 35 espèces de Ficus sect. Pharmacosycea, toutes décrites et dont le matériel a été examiné. Une clé taxonomique a été élaborée pour déterminer les taxons.

Ficus sección Pharmacosycea (Moraceae) son árboles neotropicales, terrestres (raramente hemiepífitos), distribuidos desde el norte de México hasta el norte de Argentina, caracterizados por un par de glándulas en la axila de la vena secundaria basal, látex amargo, inflorescencias monoicas, axilares, solitarias (raramente en pares), con tres epibrácteas y flores estaminadas con dos estambres. Se divide en tres subsecciones: Carautaea, plantas hemiepífitas cuando jóvenes y pecíolo con peridermo no en descomposición; Petenenses, terrestres y pecíolo con peridermo en descomposición; y Bergianae terrestres y pecíolo con peridermo no en descomposición. Para la revisión de los taxones se analizaron todos los protólogos y tipos, se estudiaron más de siete mil materiales de herbarios sudamericanos, norteamericanos y europeos para comparar caracteres morfológicos, y se realizaron recolecciones en las zonas donde existen poblaciones naturales. El trabajo dio como resultado 35 especies de Ficus sect. Pharmacosycea, todas ellas descritas y con materiales examinados. Se elaboró una clave taxonómica para determinar los taxones.

I Ficus sezione Pharmacosycea (Moraceae) sono alberi neotropicali, terrestri (raramente emiepifiti), distribuiti dal Messico settentrionale all'Argentina settentrionale, caratterizzati da una coppia di ghiandole all'ascella della vena secondaria basale, lattice amaro, infiorescenze monoiche, ascellari, solitarie (raramente in coppia), con tre epibratte e fiori staminati con due stami. È suddivisa in tre sottosezioni: Carautaea, piante emiepifite da giovani e picciolo con periderma non decadente; Petenenses, terrestri e picciolo con periderma decadente; e Bergianae terrestri e picciolo con periderma non decadente. Per rivedere i taxa sono stati analizzati tutti i protologhi e i tipi, sono stati studiati più di settemila materiali provenienti da erbari sudamericani, nordamericani ed europei per confrontare i caratteri morfologici e sono state effettuate raccolte nelle aree in cui sono presenti popolazioni naturali. Il lavoro ha permesso di ottenere 35 specie di Ficus sect. Pharmacosycea, tutte descritte e con materiali esaminati. Per la determinazione dei taxa è stata redatta una chiave tassonomica.

Die Ficus-Sektion Pharmacosycea (Moraceae) sind neotropische, terrestrische Bäume (selten Hemiepiphyten), die von Nordmexiko bis Nordargentinien verbreitet sind. Sie zeichnen sich durch ein Paar Drüsen in der Achsel der basalen Nebenader, bitteren Milchsaft, einhäusige, achselständige, einsame Blütenstände (selten paarweise) mit drei Nebenblättern und staminate Blüten mit zwei Staubblättern aus. Sie wird in drei Unterabteilungen unterteilt: Carautaea, hemiepiphytische Pflanzen in der Jugend und Blattstiel mit nicht verrottendem Periderm; Petenenses, terrestrisch und Blattstiel mit verrottendem Periderm; und Bergianae terrestrisch und Blattstiel mit nicht verrottendem Periderm. Um die Taxa zu überarbeiten, wurden alle Protokolle und Typen analysiert, mehr als siebentausend Materialien aus südamerikanischen, nordamerikanischen und europäischen Herbarien untersucht, um morphologische Merkmale zu vergleichen, und Sammlungen in den Gebieten durchgeführt, in denen natürliche Populationen vorkommen. Das Ergebnis dieser Arbeit sind 35 Arten von Ficus sect. Pharmacosycea, die alle beschrieben und deren Material untersucht wurde. Zur Bestimmung der Taxa wurde ein taxonomischer Schlüssel erstellt.
