Annaeus Seneca On Benefits: Edited By Aubrey StewartThis book is a result of an effort made by us towards making a contribution to the preservation and repair of original classic literature.In an attempt to preserve, improve and recreate the original content, we have worked towards:1. Type-setting & Reformatting: The complete work has been re-designed via professional layout, formatting and type-setting tools to re-create the same edition with rich typography, graphics, high quality images, and table elements, giving our readers the feel of holding a 'fresh and newly' reprinted and/or revised edition, as opposed to other scanned & printed (Optical Character Recognition - OCR) reproductions.2. Correction of imperfections: As the work was re-created from the scratch, therefore, it was vetted to rectify certain conventional norms with regard to typographical mistakes, hyphenations, punctuations, blurred images, missing content/pages, and/or other related subject matters, upon our consideration. Every attempt was made to rectify the imperfections related to omitted constructs in the original edition via other references. However, a few of such imperfections which could not be rectified due to intentional\unintentional omission of content in the original edition, were inherited and preserved from the original work to maintain the authenticity and construct, relevant to the work.We believe that this work holds historical, cultural and/or intellectual importance in the literary works community, therefore despite the oddities, we accounted the work for print as a part of our continuing effort towards preservation of literary work and our contribution towards the development of the society as a whole, driven by our beliefs. Lucius Annaeus Seneca (4 BCE - 65 CE) was a Roman Stoic philosopher, dramatist, statesman, and adviser to the emperor Nero, all during the Silver Age of Latin literature. This title is a fresh and compelling series of new English-language translations of his works in eight accessible volumes.

This new edition concentrates on the dramatic qualities of Phaedra and examines the Greek and Roman background to the play.

This edition of Seneca's Apocolocyntosis contains the authoritative translation of W.H.D. Rouse, complete with notes.The Apocolocyntosis by Seneca is a satire aimed at the Roman Emperor Claudius. Together with Petronius's Satyricon, it holds the distinction of being the only surviving satire of the Menippean genre of classical antiquity. The title is a play upon words, with the term ""apotheosis"", connoting the process in which dead Roman emperors were recognized as Gods.Intended as a comedy, the play chronicles the death of the Emperor Claudius, and his rise toward the heavens. However, the Gods cast judgment that he should instead descend to Hades - a sentence which Claudius contests, by appealing to the God Hercules. Thereafter begins a drama in the divine court, wherein Claudius deeds are held up and examined by several figures in the Greek Pantheon. Unfortunately, the speeches of each of the Gods sitting at court have been lost to time, though the plot of the Apocolocyntosis survives.

On Benefits (De Beneficiis) is a first-century work by Lucius Annaeus Seneca. It forms part of a series of moral essays (or Dialogues) composed by Seneca and is essential reading for students of Stoicism. On Benefits is about the nature of relative benefits to persons fulfilling the role in social exchange of either giver or receiver. The subject in Seneca's day might be thought of as social ethics, specifically Stoic ethics.

Written over two thousand years ago, Seneca's moral letters to his friend Lucilius - aka Letters from a Stoic - still holds the power to enthrall. For a new generation of Stoic students and practitioners (and the merely curious), this lively, timeless guide to living the good life is essential reading. The epistles were written by Seneca at the end of his life, during his retirement, after he had worked for the Emperor Nero for fifteen years. They are addressed to Lucilius, the then procurator of Sicily, although he is known only through Seneca's writings. Whether or not Seneca and Lucilius actually corresponded, or whether in fact Seneca created the work as a form of fiction, is not clear from the historical record. This is the first volume of the Letters, Epistles I-LXV.
