This book is about a young poor boy growing up during the Great Depression when organized crime was rampant, welfare didn't exist, food lines were commonplace, and hot tamales were available from a vendor on a modified bicycle, if you had the price. His mom, a widow since he was four years old, didn't have the price. Once a week, they had meat; it was sausage and what tasted like sawdust mixed in. He didn't like it, but he ate it because he was hungry. Sometimes, on Sundays, White Castle had hamburgers on sale, ten for a dollar. When his mom and his older half sister had a dollar, they ate like royalty. He could've eaten all ten by himself. When he was fifteen, he lied about his age and joined the US Navy and was never hungry again.

Out of the Blue is a historical action thriller set in the year 1812 and deals with the trials and tribulations of two prominent characters of that era, John Andrew, a local smuggler from Saltburn on the English Northeast coast and the French emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, who invaded Russia in the same year. The text also bounces back to modern times where Ryan Thompson, armed with nothing more than his memories of an action comic magazine from his youth, uncovers the secrets of times gone by with the assistance of his pretty guide, Victoria Dunn. After two hundred years, the truth is finally revealed.

Mark C. Biedebach received his PhD in Biophysics from UCLA in 1964. (Prior to that, he was the 1st place national winner of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers 1955 student paper contest.) After two post-doctoral years (doing neurophysiological research at Caltech and the College de France), he joined the faculty of California State University, Long Beach, where he conducted research and taught physiology and neuroscience for 34 years. Several years before retiring, he began preparing to write in the area of human consciousness. Upon the advice of a friend, he took several creative writing classes atUniversity of California, Irvine. Sitting in these classes, he realized that his readership could be much larger if he were to write a fictional work into which his knowledge of brain function and consciousness could be interwoven. He decided to use his own memoir story (involving finding Irina and marrying her in Russia) as a framework. He then superimposed two fantasy characters to help an obsessed scientist explore the mystery of consciousness. After a five-year incubation period, "Clone and Kork" was born. It is the author's belief that no similar work of fiction has ever been written (in which the neuroscience of consciousness has been integrated into experimental fiction, using fantasy characters.)
