Seminar paper from the year 2023 in the subject History - America, grade: 100, Arizona State University, course: Latin American History, language: English, abstract: Where this study about the Jesuit orders dynamics among the Inca wants to go is beyond race and the casta system, although these will be unavoidable and important aspects of the research. More prominently featured will be aspects such as trade, labor, production, consumption, daily lives, gender, social interaction, what society was like before contact, what was introduced, what was taken away, and what was the final product. The correlation or contest between micro and macro identity will be observed. Across three centuries, beginning in 1567, the Jesuit order had a substantial political and socio-economic presence in the Andean regions of Latin America. Less than four decades after Saint Ignatius of Loyola founded the Society to spread the faith by the "sword of the word", the first Jesuits entered South America by the request of King Philip II of Spain, altering the chemistry of a continent and two competing empires.

Essay from the year 2014 in the subject History Europe - Other Countries - Ages of World Wars, grade: 95.0, Westminster College, course: Independent Study, language: English, abstract: The contrasts between Allied and Soviet styles of liberation in the Second World War are most apparent, on the surface, when one takes a look at the split of Berlin, but to fully comprehend these styles, one must regard other areas of Liberation, understand the foreign policy of the time, and look through the eyes of the liberators as well as the liberated. This independent study did just that. The destinations that were investigated include the Allied-liberated capital of France, Paris, the Allied-landing point in France, Normandy, and the main Allied headquarters and capital, London, United Kingdom. The main site for investigating Soviet liberation of Nazi-occupied territories was Prague, in the Czech Republic. This investigation also incorporated surveys and interviews from natives of these locations about their beliefs and the beliefs of the older generation on the subject of liberation. By looking back at the liberation of the east and west, one could better comprehend the modern political ideologies and socio-economic environment of Europe.

From his earliest reading memories in wartime Britain through five decades of librarianship, eminent librarian and former ALA President Michael Gorman offers insights from his extraordinary career in this new memoir. Gorman relates his personal and professional journey in prose that is by turns charming, opinionated, and revealing. He mad perhaps his most significant contribution to librarianship as editor of the 1978 Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules, a major development that receives detailed attention here. The debates and arguments that would shape professional practice for years to come are dramatically presented, with a vivid cast of characters including leading librarians from two continents. Broken Pieces, Gorman's account of being on the front lines of many of the most important decisions made in librarianship during his career, is a timely and entertaining read.
