You can get very bored on a long train ride, but you won't get bored if you know what is ahead on the tracks. Brenner Pass is a beautiful place, and the exciting thing is that you can see it by train! If you want, you can even stop at one of the many train stations along the way and stretch your legs and talk a walk around one of the several lovely small towns. Brenner Pass is a feast for the eyes. Have your children count how many church steeples they see along the way, or how many small villages they see. Watch for hikers and take in the breath taking beauty. With photography by John D. Weigand and poetry by award winning author, Penelope Dyan, you can delight in the sights and impressions of these two travelers as you talk to your children about what happened along the pass. Brenner Pass served mule trains and carts until a road was opened in 1777. The railway, completed in 1867, is the only trans-alpine rail route with no major tunnel. At the end of World War I international borders shifted. Control of the area has shared between Italy and Austria ever since. During World War II, Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini met there to celebrate their Pact of Steel on March 10, 1940. And Brenner Pass was a Nazi escape route after the collapse of Germany in 1945.The pass is beautiful to behold, and with or without its colorful history, the journey is fun and interesting. Travel the pass through the pages of this book, and pretend you can hear the sound of the rails going clickity clack, clickity clack as you trave along the railroad's track.

Penelope Dyan was cruising down the Rhine River in Germany when a wrinkled rather young woman began blowing smoke in her face. Dyan very politely tried to fan the smoke away with a piece of paper; and the woman just laughed at her and held the cigarette closer. Right then and there, as children played nearby, this story formed in her head. In fact, Dyan tried to turn on her computer that very instant to write this story, but the sun was too bright; and she couldn't see the computer screen. Nevertheless, the story was written. It is something that must be said. No one should ever be so selfish as to invade the breathing space of another. Use this book to warn your children about the dangers of smoking and second hand smoke, or give this book to a friend as a friendly nudge to stop smoking altogether. Be brave like the child in this story. Don't be afraid to be a little rude when your health is at issue, and never punish your child for saying something that is true and right.Dyan is a former k-12 teacher and an award winning writer. And as irreverent as this book may seem, it tells a very big truth.,

You can learn a lot about life from a tar pit, like don't get too close or you just might fall in and get stuck and never be able to get out! Penelope Dyan was inspired by her visit to the La Brea Tar Pits in Los Angeles, California, because the Tar Pits spoke to her about the origins and the disappearance of so many species. Surprised at how many different species were excavated from the pits, she was reminded about the fragility of life and how we all must work together to preserve what we have. Life does not have to end up in the pits.Join Author Penelope Dyan as she tells her very special version of the story of the La Brea Tar Pits. Dyan is a former K-12 teacher and an attorney who has two of her books containing poetry (not unlike the style of this book) placed in the Saison Poetry Library, fifth floor, Royal Exhibit Hall, London, UK, chosen by the arts council for their children's poetry collection. Dyan's book of poetry, "A Book For Girls About Being A Girl" has also been placed third on the Pukeke reading list of best books of poetry for girls ages 5-9 in Australia. Since life is fragile, we must work together to preserve it. If we all walk away like the ground sloth does in this Penelope Dyan written and illustrated story, then there will be no one left to pull us out of the sticky goo.(The La Brea Tar Pits is a registered U.S.. Natural National Landmark.)

Everyone has dreams and sometimes those dreams you dream at night can be scarey. That's how it was with Ben one night. He had a dream that was both scary and fun, but it was still a dream he was glad to get out of when he saw the vultures and realized he was among so many wild animals. There are basically two types of dreams, the dreams you wish for and hope will come true and the dreams you dream at night. The dreams you dream at night are divided into two additional main categories. One of those categorizes is the good dream, and one is the bad dream. The thing to remember is all dreams come from inside your head, so if you get frightened at night, you are merely frightening yourself, and all you need to do is either take control of your dream or wake up and get out of bed or go back to sleep and think happy thoughts so you have good dreams.Parents can use this book to talk about these things with their children to help them understand what is happening when they dream and also to reassure them all is well, just as Ben's mother did in this book. Penelope Dyan's first Ben Book, "Ben's adventures---Proof Positive A Boy Will Be A Boy" has been honored by being placed in the Southbank Center Poetry Library, London, chosen by the Arts Council, UK. Dyan is an attorney and former k-12 teacher who loves and really understands kids of all ages, even kids who are grown-ups! This is also book for boys that girls can read, because everyone dreams!

Everyone gets older and we all have aches and pains as we age, but there are those who see us age with different eyes. The little girl in our story notices people are saying her great grandma is getting old, just as the title of this book suggests. However, our heroine only sees the beauty and wisdom her great grandmother has to offer. She sees her great grandmother's beautiful eyes, loves going for walks with her, and is fascinated by the fact her great grandmother stays awake all night and decides if she didn't have to go to school, she would do the very same thing! We all should cherish our parents, grandparents and great grandparents. And we should also cherish ourselves and enjoy every single minute of our lives. This is a very good book to read to that young child who begins to notice loved ones are changing and getting old. It reminds us we can be beautiful at any age and that indeed we are beautiful every day of our lives. Just ask any child! Written by award winning author, Penelope Dyan, from the prospective of a child, this is the perfect gift for grandma, great grandma, your grandchild, great grandchild, son or daughter, to start the dialog moving.

Mount Vernon was the home of the first President of the United States, George Washington. It is located on the banks of (and looks down upon) the Potomac River. Mount Vernon was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1960 and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. When Augustine Washington owned the estate, it was known as Little Hunting Creek Plantation. Lawrence Washington, George's older half-brother, inherited the estate and changed the name to Mount Vernon in honor of Vice Admiral Edward Vernon, Lawrence's commanding officer in the British Navy. When George Washington inherited Mount Vernon he kept the name. But the M ount Vernon is hardly the same property he inherited, from his brother, because he expanded the house and made it his own. This is why it is truly the house that George built!Once again Penelope Dyan and John D. Weigand have combined efforts to create a book for kids that is fun and educational and looks great on your coffee table. Dyan has taken her talents as a former teacher and put them to work in her own very special way, The photography of John D. Weigand hits the mark again with his unqiue available light only photographs

Music is the 'staff' of life. People say music can soothe the soul of the savage beast, and maybe that is true. The author of this book certainly believes it is!Based on Penelope Dyan's own family when she was growing up, Dyan continues the celebration of music she experienced as a child. Even if you don't have a gift of music, you have music in your soul just waiting to come out, and this book explores this concept. If you think music isn't inside of everyone, just look at a baby naturally bouncing to the rhythm of a song; and you will see that you are wrong.Put yourself into your child's head and get out the pots and pans and the kazoos; make some hats out of newspaper and have a parade. There is more to life than video games and television, so make life exciting, and awaken the spirit of music within both you and your child. Music develops the brain as well as artistic senses. Penelope Dyan is an award winning author. She is an attorney and former teacher and has been widely published in professional publications in both fields. She wrote music to teach her kindergartners to speak Spanish, and it was published in Instructor Magazine, a national teacher resource magazine. Dyan will tell you when she grew up she thought everyone could automatically read music and was surprised to finds out she was wrong, but you don't have to be able to read music to love music and to dance and sing.

Lying is never a good thing. But even if you have lied about something, you can always correct that by simply telling the truth. The most important thing a person can do it to take responsibility when they do something wrong. Let the angel on your shoulder guide you, and not the devil sitting on the other side. What does our hero do, and why does he try to hide what he has done? What happens when he finally tells the truth? How do you feel when you tell a lie? Do you take responsibility for things you do, even when those things are wrong things? This is a book for both boys and girls, because girls can do bad things too; and yes, even girls lie. Sometimes moms and dads know you are lying, and sometimes they don't. But the important thing to really remember is that the truth is much easier to remember than a series of lies. And the truth WILL set you free.Penelope Dyan is an attorney, a writer and a former teacher who really understands and loves kids. Her book 'Surfer Girl' is recognized by the Girls Voices In Literature Database, and was the winner of best teen book at both the 2008 New York Book Festival and the 2008 Hollywood Book Festival. A fjord is a long and narrow inlet with steep sides and cliffs created by geological glacial erosion. There are many, many fjords that you can find along the coasts of Alaska as well as British Columbia, Chile, Greenland and Iceland, You can also find fjords on the Kerguelen Islands, in New Zealand, Norway, Labrador, Nunavut, Newfoundland, and Washington state! However, in this case, our author and photographer hopped on the ferry boat at Flam, Norway and headed out to see the famous fjords of Norway. But no matter where you are, and whether you travel through the pages of this book, or you travel in person to far off places, one thing is very clear; and that is that, like the geological make up of this great planet of ours, we are more alike than we are different, and we should embrace our differences as well as how we are alike, because we all live under the very same sun and moon.Use this book by the award wining author, attorney and former teacher, Penelope Dyan, and photographer John D. Weigand to practice reading skills as you turn the pages of this book. When you are finished, watch the free music video that goes along with this book on Bellissimavideo's YouTube channel. Trapani is a city in Sicily, Italy that was founded way back in time by a group of people called the Elymians. Their Iron age history is basically the same as that of their nearby Sicani neighbors; and they adopted the Greek alphabet into their own language, a language no one has been able to translate to this day. There is a lot to see and do in Trapani, and many things will catch your eye. This is truly one place where the sky meets the sea, and it¿s a great place to be! So bring your walking shoes and your camera and take pictures of your own as you do a great explore! Mainly, think about the past, the present and the future and how the people intermingled cultures, just as everyone has done since the beginning of time, to create the great, vast world in which we live today.
