Malta has been inhabited since it was settled around 5200 BC from the Italian island of Sicily. Later, the Phoenicians and the Greeks arrived, the Romans and the Arabs, and the French and the English. Malta is a virtual melting pot. The Siege of Malta (also known as the Great Siege of Malta) took place in 1565 when the Ottomans invaded the island, then held by the Knights of Saint John. For the next 275 years, the knights called this island home. They built towns, palaces, churches, and fortifications. Malta is rich in history and is a very fun place to explore and to see. Take some time to explore this beautiful island through the words and photography of John D. Weigand and Penelope Dyan and walk the streets of this amazing place as you look through these pages. This book is meant for children, and it is also meant to encourage the minds of the young to imagine and to explore; and award winning author and poet Penelope Dyan, who is also an attorney and a former teacher, aims to do just that! Malta is a colorful and amazing place seeped in culture and history that will amaze kids and adults alike.

Gibraltar is a British territory on the south end of the Iberian Peninsula at the Mediterranean entrance. It's total area is 2.6 square miles and it has a northern border with Andalusia, Spain. The Rock of Gibraltar is its major landmark. At its foot is a densely populated city of almost 30,000 people. An Anglo-Dutch force captured Gibraltar from Spain in 1704 during the War of the Spanish Succession. The territory was ceded to Britain "in perpetuity" under the 1713 Treaty of Utrecht. It became a base for the Royal Navy. Now its economy is based n tourism, finance and shipping. The sovereignty of Gibraltar is at issue in Anglo-Spanish relations, because Spain assets a claim to the territory. However, the people of Gibralter have rejected proposals for Spanish sovereignty, once in a 1967 referendum, and again in 2002. Under its 2006 constitution, Gibraltar governs all of its own affairs. However, powers of defense and foreign relations remain the responsibility of the UK Government. To understand Gibralter, one needs to talk to its people and see everything it has to offer. Look for Penelope Dyan music videos that go with this book, and for more from Bellissima Publishing, LLC, as you learn all you learn all you can about this place that gave rise to the expression: ". . . as strong as the rock of Gibralter." The companion book to this book is "The Comeback Kids, Book 9, The Barbary Macaques of Gibraltar."

Sometimes bees happen to take up residence in very strange places, and a beekeeper has to be called to move them to a new hive. Bees can sting you, and sometimes that hurts a lot; so you need to be very careful about bees. However, all creatures have their place in the ecosystem, and this is a very important concept children need to learn and know. That said, everything has its place, and bees in the walls of homes need to be moved to a hive that is outside where it is safe for everyone, even if it means the mouse must also go.Read the poetry and enjoy the funny illustrations of Penelope Dyan as your child learns about one small part of the ecosystem in one very small way, and about how we all have to make adjustments (sometimes) in our lives, even mice and bees. Use this little book as a sounding board to discuss place and change, and about how all things work together for good, even if we have to make a compromise (as these bees had to leave). Penelope Dyan, author of 'Surfer Girl,' best teen book at the 2008 New York Book Festival and best teen book at the 2008 Hollywood Book Festival, a former teacher and attorney, really understands kids. She brings all her knowledge and love of children with her as she writes her books, and like all Bellissima Books, her books have a lesson and a purpose.

The Nelson and Eldorado Canyon areas were home to ancient Puebloan, Paiutes and Mojave Indians who lived in peace there for hundred of years. In 1775, Spaniards arrived looking for gold. They settled at the mouth of the Colorado River and called it Eldorado. However, they missed the rich gold veins beneath the canyon's flanks, and found silver and there was not enough silver to make mining worthwhile, and so they left. By 1861 miners discovered the Salvage Vein about five miles up from the Colorado River, a rich, vertically stacked ribbon of gold running through a steep ridge along one side of the canyon. Several miners formed the Techatticup Mine through a series of shady dealings. The name is the Paiute Indian word for hungry, a term heard by early settlers and said by the starving Indians inhabiting the dry hills. The Techatticup Gold Mine was once owned by Senator George Hearst of California, father of William Randolph Hearst, the famous publisher. The history of the area is fascinating. Where else can you hear about prospectors who were Civil War deserters, gunfights over gold, daily killings and other acts so despicable even law enforcement refused to come from a mere 200 miles away? There was virtually no law in Eldorado Canyon, and the Techatticup Mine was in the middle of it all!Now owned by a family whose five sons have cleared tunnels through the mine and have found and uncovered even more of its history, this is the place to be and see American history and how a part of it was formed. So take a tour through the pages of this book with photographer John D. Weigand, and award winning author and poet, Penelope Dyan and see what they saw when they explored this fascinating place!

Read the words on one page (most from the Dolch reading word lists) and then draw a picture on the page right next to the page where you read the words or do what the words tell you to do. Once again, there are also no wrong ways to do this book so whatever you do, you earn an A+! So have fun and learn a thing or two, or three! If you make a mistake, do remember to make a big one! It doesn't matter! It is good. You are still learning, and you can also learn a lot by making mistakes. Embrace the mistakes you make and then learn something from them, and ALWAYS ask a lot of questions; and if you do not know a word, or you don't understand something, ask for help. The only silly question is the question you do not ask, so ask lots and lots of questions (if you have any questions at all) and you will learn lots and lots of great answers! And when you are finished, you will have illustrated a book!

Go back in time and see how things once were. Learn about the greatest generations of Americans and find out how they came to be the greatest generations of Americans. Written by the award winning author, attorney and former educator, Penelope Dyan, about a family not unlike her own, this book combines history with fiction in such a manner that it will open your eyes . Winston Churchill once said, "Those that fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it." And even if, "We have nothing to fear, but fear itself," as President Franklin D. Rossevelt said, a needless repetiton of the past is something we can easily avoid. All we have to do is pay attention to what came before us. In this book truth is mirrored in fiction, and the past reveals the present. Whether we recognize it or not, we are all a product of what came before us through blood and sacrifice, and through love and time.

It was re-opened to the public on April 25, 2012, much to the delight of would be seafaring kids and adults.Take a look at the Cutty Sark from below and above through the lens of John D. Weigand. This book is recommended by 'Simply Hotels' and the edicational website 'Maisey Goes To Barcelona.' It is a child's picture book, and sometimes even older children and adults enjoy reading it and looking at the pictures. Children can add things to the book (if they like) and write in the book and on the blank pages at the end of the book, and Penelope Dyan encourages them to do so to make the book their very own. It is a guide for the very young with colorful photographs of a walk down La Ramba (the heart of Barcelona) to the statue of Christopher Columbus pointing the way to America. There are reminders of home for those who feel a little homesick, and there is a video on YouTube that goes along with this book. Author Penelope Dyan is recognized by Kindercare, Girls Voices In Literature Database (Miami University, Florida) and the AU Pukeke recommended reading list places her books in the top ten best books for girls on two different lists! Penelope Dyan also has two of her children's books on display in the Saison Poetry Library, Southbank Centre, London, chosen by the UK Arts Council. Southbank Centre is the largest arts center in the entire world, and very few authors outside the UK are placed in this library. ( And these are only a few of her honors and awards.) You need to utilize all you can when you are teaching young children, and this book will keep the yawns and the complaints away when traveling because as one reviewer in an Istanbul, Turkey newspaper noted, these authors truly see through the eyes of a child and know how to keep their interest.
