The recent introduction of feed-in tariffs and renewable heat incentives in the UK has provided a new financial incentive for the installation of micro-generation, but so far there has been limited research on its uptake in small organisations. The book explores the perceived barriers and incentives to installation among small organisations and assesses how micro-generation is viewed in the context of wider environmental management measures. The discussion surrounding indirect economic incentives, such as ¿green marketing¿, and non-economic barriers is particularly interesting, and leads to the suggestion of an Energy Hierarchy Framework model as a useful tool for small organisations in the adoption of micro-generation and wider environmental management measures. The book also draws on the Camden Climate Change Alliance (CCCA) as an effective model for encouraging a greater uptake of environmental management in small organisations and improving business efficiency.

The book explores how the ¿wider¿ rationalities of people¿s behavior with regards to purchasing low carbon technologies can be incorporated into energy-economy models, using the Open Source Energy Modelling System (OSeMOSYS) as an example. People are strongly influenced by factors other than the upfront costs, such as hassle, habits, family and friends, social norms, status and time for information searching. However, few attempts have been made to capture and quantify these intangible costs and benefits as parameters in energy-economy models. The book presents innovative research that uses income and location as proxies to do this. Policies that can reduce the intangible costs and increase the benefits will be more effective at encouraging technological uptake than concentrating solely on reducing the upfront costs.

This is a descriptive inventory, with numerous drawings and photographs, of more than 3,500 stone vases from the Minoan civilisation of ancient Crete. Dr Warren discusses the various stones used, methods of manufacturing, the probable usage and purpose of the vases, and their relation to metal and clay vessels.
