From the head load, animal cart and boat to ships, railways, highways, aircraft and space ships, the history of transport would perhaps read like the story of the development of human civilization. Exploration of the world, understanding geography, analysis of conquests and invasions, colonization and control, all tell us of the crucial role so often played by movement and transportation factors. Like every branch of activity, transport has had its own words evolved through usage and acquired by one language from the others. The first commercial means of transport was shipping and the words used there were often adopted later by other modes like railways, mechanized road transport and airways. Even otherwise, words have moved from one mode of transport to the others and this coupled with a rapid growth of technology and management practices, this group of words has enlarged enough to warrant a dictionary of its own. This book is about transportation terms and, at places, also about the concepts behind them.

Actually this book is based on my research on Indo-Anglian literature in which I have searched out how the most renowned and prominent authors of Indo-Anglian Literature such as Dr.Mulk Raj Anand, R.K.Narayan, Upamanyu Chatterjee, A.K.Ramanujan, Shobha De, Arun Joshi ,Anita Desai, Mahasweta Devi have depicted the different aspects of human life with their reformative vision. They are read worldwide on account of their universality, heart touching descriptions and living portrayal of human life. They have created a lot of wonderful word pictures with all the psychological aspects through their life-like characters that the curiosity and interest of the readers continues to grow about their realistic works. They have written scientifically in their works what they have minutely looked with their own eyes, happening all around them. There are different chapters on different writers in this book, showing the artistic skill and techniques of those writing gems to portray life with their own vision how human life should be by removing its short-comings which have minutely been observed by them. It¿s my claim that the readers will feel benefitted after reading this valuable book.
