The author follows the German submarine, the U-505, through the ordeals of Hans Göebeler, a German seaman who sailed on all nine combat patrols of the U-505.The Capture of the U-505-A Legion of Heroes is a tribute to the courageous heroes, civilian and military, men and women who em-ployed ingenious methods to counter enemy intelligence and tactics and who exhibited amazing bravery in risking their lives to defeat the enemies of the free world during the Battle of the Atlantic.In researching the story, the author found himself walking in the footsteps of heroes and fell to the rear of an expanding column of heroic men and women and that column eventually evolved into a Legion of Heroes who are portrayed throughout the book.

Freedomland opened on June 19, 1960, in the Baychester section of the Bronx, New York. Designed by Marco Engineering of Los Angeles for International Recreation Corporation, it was the third and largest innovative theme park built across America to mimic Disneyland. Constructed in the shape of the United States and presenting 200 years of American history, Freedomland was intended to be both exciting and educational. Historically themed attractions and costumed cast members were located throughout the seven sections. In addition, Freedomland offered national and local stars, big bands, and daily entertainment events. Professional character actors also worked throughout the park. Although it was open for just five seasons, the park's guests and cast members were fortunate to have their very own "Disneyland of the East."
