Biomimetics provide new strategy that translates our knowledge of biological system and create new synthetic pathways to mimic biological processes. Three approaches are being used for the creation of new tissues by mimicking natural ones which includes the tissue engineering triad; the cells, mediators and a biocompatible matrix. It is a challenge to design and fabricate new biomimetic materials like enamel, dentin, cementum, pulp, bone and periodontal ligament. Focusing on to the future, we should direct our goal to regenerate the diseased and necrotic tissues rather than replacing them with some conventional replacement materials.

Intracanal medicaments are used for root canal disinfection. As a part of controlled asepsis their role is secondary to cleaning and shaping of the root canal. The chemical nature of medicaments employed are varied-; they come from a number of different groups, often different chemicals or drugs are combined in a ¿cock tail¿ in an attempt to elicit a variety of effects with a single application. Due to advance in medical and research fields new approaches like photoactivated disinfection, ultrasonics, endox, ozone, lasers and electrochemically activated water have been introduced for the disinfection of the root canal. Therefore to inactivate this bacterial inflammatory burden, long lasting antibacterial intracanal medication has to be utilized between the endodontic appointments.

Successful treatment is often the outcome of collective interplay of the concerned specialties. The patients are becoming aware and willing to accept different treatment options to achieve esthetic and functional corrections. This changing psychological scenario has made interdisciplinary approach a necessity for any esteem. Teamwork is the mainstay of interdisciplinary dentistry, as it bridges the inevitable gaps that exist between different disciplines of dentistry. Specialists with varied expertise gather at one platform and work as a team, to identify problem and plan treatment .
