Rudolf Steiner war von 1906 bis circa 1914 auch in erkenntniskultischer (freimaurerischer) Arbeit tätig. Ritualtexte und Erläuterungen von seiner Hand wurden bereits in dem Band "Zur Geschichte und aus den Inhalten der erkenntniskultischen Abteilung der Esoterischen Schule 1904 bis 1914" (GA 265) publiziert und von der Herausgeberin ausführlich eingeleitet und kontextuell eingebettet. Ergänzend zu dieser erkenntniskultischen Arbeit hielt Rudolf Steiner erläuternde Vorträge. Was dazu überliefert ist, beruht auf nachträglichen Gedächtnisaufzeichnungen von Teilnehmenden. Der Band GA 265a enthält solche, dem Rudolf Steiner Archiv vorliegende Aufzeichnungen sowie einige zugehörige Briefe, Vorträge und Dokumente aus den Jahren 1906 bis 1923. Mit der Veröffentlichung dieser Dokumente, meist aus Nachlässen esoterischer Schüler stammend, erweitert sich der Einblick in die Formen und Inhalte der esoterischen Lehrtätigkeit Rudolf Steiners.

The following pages are a translation of Dr. Steiner's Philosophie der Freiheit, which was published in Germany some twenty years ago. The edition was soon exhausted, and has never been reprinted; copies are much sought after but very difficult to obtain. The popularity of Dr. Steiner's later works upon ethics, mysticism, and kindred subjects has caused people to forget his earlier work upon philosophy in spite of the fact that he makes frequent references to this book and it contains the germs of which many of his present views are the logical outcome. For the above reasons, and with the author's sanction, I have decided to publish a translation. In 1918 Dr. Steiner published a revised edition of the Philosophie der Freiheit. For the translation of the new passages added to, and of the incidental changes made in, this revised edition I am indebted to Mr. Hoernlé, now Professor of Philosophy in the Armstrong College (Newcastle-upon-Tyne), University of Durham. At the author's request I have changed the title to Philosophy of Spiritual Activity, and throughout the entire work "freedom" should be taken to mean "spiritual activity." Dr. Steiner's Ph. D. Thesis on "Truth and Science," originally published as a prelude to The Philosophy of Freedom, has, with his consent, been translated for this edition and been added at the end of this volume.

Rudolf Steiner's Road to Self Knowledge consists of eight 'meditations' or spiritual-guides. The eight topics explored are: The Physical Body, The Etheric Body, Clairvoyant Cognition of the Elemental World, The Guardian of the Threshold, The Astral Body, The Ego Body or Thought Body, The Character of Experience in the Supersensible Worlds and The Way in Which Man Beholds His Repeated Earth Lives.

The point, line, plane and solid objects represent the first three dimensions, but a kind of reversal of space is involved in the ascent to a fourth dimension. Steiner leads us to the brink of this new perspective¿as nearly as it can be done with words, diagrams, analogies, and examples of many kinds. In doing so, he continues his lifelong project of demonstrating that our objective, everyday thinking is the lowest rung of a ladder that reaches up to literally infinite heights. The talks in this series and the selections from the question-and-answer sessions on many mathematical topics over the years are translated into English for the first time in The Fourth Dimension.

The Philosophy of Freedom is the fundamental philosophical work of the philosopher and esotericist Rudolf Steiner (1861-1925). It addresses the question of whether and in what sense human beings can be said to be free. Originally published in 1894 in German as Die Philosophie der Freiheit, with a second edition published in 1918, the work has appeared under a number of English titles, including The Philosophy of Spiritual Activity (the title Steiner proposed for the English-language translation), The Philosophy of Freedom , and Intuitive Thinking as a Spiritual Path . Part One of The Philosophy of Freedom examines the basis for freedom in human thinking, gives an account of the relationship between knowledge and perception, and explores the role and reliability of thinking as a means to knowledge. In Part Two Steiner analyzes the conditions necessary for human beings to be free, and develops a moral philosophy that he describes as "ethical individualism".

Dieser Band in der Gesamtausgabe ist eine Ausgliederung aus dem 2023 in einer revidierten Neuauflage erschienenen Band 24, die Texte zum Ersten Weltkrieg betreffend. Den Anfang macht die kleine Schrift «Gedanken während der Zeit des Krieges» von 1915, gefolgt von einer Buchbesprechung, den Memoranden von 1917, die einen Ausweg aus der verfahrenen Kriegssituation weisen wollten, einer Buchrezension und der Vorbemerkung zu Helmuth von Moltkes Memoiren«Die am Kriege»; außerdem enthält der Band das sogenannte Matin-Interview, in welchem Rudolf Steiner 1921 nochmals auf die Geschehnisse zurückblickt. Neu ist im Anhang auch die französische Originalfassung wiedergegeben. Ebenso findet sich dort das Faksimile von Moltkes «Die am Kriege» mit Steiners «Vorbereitungen». Diese Broschüre ist damals (Mai 1919) nicht in Umlauf gelangt und musste eingestampft werden. Sie liegt heute weltweit nur noch in ganz wenigen Exemplaren vor. Mit dem Band GA 19 liegen nun die schriftlichen Äußerungen Rudolf Steiners zur Weltkriegsproblematik thematisch sinnvoll zusammengefasst in einem Band vor. Zusammen mit den in GA 24 enthaltenen Texten zur Dreigliederung des sozialen Organismus ermöglicht er einen Einblick in die Entwicklung von Rudolf Steiners politischem Denken und Wirken.

First, Steiner builds a comprehensive understanding of human nature: physical bodily nature; soul qualities; spirit being, or "I"-being; and the higher spiritual aspects.In the next section, Steiner offers an extraordinary overview of the laws of reincarnation and the principles of karma, as we pass from one life to the next. This masterwork of esotericism places humankind at the very heart of the vast, invisible processes of cosmic evolution. When we use the term "natural science," don't we mean that we are dealing with human knowledge of nature? Given his energetic involvement in practical initiatives and extensive lecturing, Rudolf Steiner had very little time to write. Of the books he found time to write, four titles are considered indispensable introductions to his teaching as a whole: How to Know Higher Worlds; An Outline of Esoteric Science; Intuitive Thinking As a Spiritual Path; and Theosophy. With the exception of his Anthroposophical Leading Thoughts and his Autobiography, Steiner's important writings belong largely to his earliest work. The anthroposophy of Rudolf Steiner is not a theoretical system but the results of research based on direct observation. Because his research was so vast and conducted over such a long period of time, no single book can be said to contain the whole of his spiritual teaching. However, of all his books, this one perhaps comes closest. Steiner even referred to it as "an epitome of anthroposophical spiritual science." In a systematic way, he lays out fundamental facts concerning the nature and constitution of the human being and, in chronological order, the history of the universe and humankind. Whereas the findings of natural science are derived from observations made through the senses, the findings of spiritual science are "occult," inasmuch as they arise from direct observation of realities hidden to ordinary human perception. Nevertheless, these elements of humanity and the universe form the foundation of the sensory world. A substantial part of this important work describes the basic training needed to make such spiritual observations. Although Occult Science is not all-inclusive, it is indispensable to any serious student who wishes to master Steiner's extraordinary philosophy and methods of inner development.

In this classic account of the Western esoteric path of initiation, Steiner leads the student from the cultivation of reverence and inner tranquility to the development of inner life through the stages of preparation, illumination, and initiation. Practical exercises in inner and outer observation and moral development are described. By patiently and persistently following these suggestions, new "organs" of soul and spirit begin to form, revealing the contours of higher worlds that had been concealed from us. Here, Rudolf Steiner is available as teacher, counselor, and friend. His advice is practical, clear, and powerful. Being deeply interested in Dr. Steiner's work and teachings, and desirous of sharing with my English-speaking friends the many invaluable glimpses of Truth which are to be found therein, I decided upon the translation of the present volume. It is due to the kind co-operation of several friends who prefer to be anonymous that this task has been accomplished, and I wish to express my hearty thanks for the literary assistance rendered by them-also to thank Dr. Peipers of Munich for permission to reproduce his excellent photograph of the author. The special value of this volume consists, I think, in the fact that no advice is given and no statement made which is not based on the personal experience of the author, who is, in the truest sense, both a mystic and an occultist. If the present volume should meet with a reception justifying a further venture, we propose translating and issuing during the coming year a further series of articles by Dr. Steiner in continuation of the same subject, and a third volume will consist of the articles now appearing in the pages of The Theosophist, entitled "The Education of Children." While the pleasant German vernacular is still discernable in the text of this work, we wish to state that it has been Americanized in spelling, phraseology, and definition, to make plainer to the Western mind the wonderful truths experienced by its distinguished author. The readers, especially Occult, Theosophic, Masonic, and New Thought students, we believe, will appreciate the clearness with which his teachings lead to the simple rich Harmony of Life.
