Ein Arzt, ein ungewohnliches Arrangement und ein merkwurdiger russischer Patient: Dr. Treveylan, der sich als Student auf ein obskures Geschaftsmodell mit einem Mann namens Blessington eingelassen hat, berichtet Holmes, dass er an zwei aufeinanderfolgenden Abenden von einem russischen Patienten und dessen Sohn aufgesucht wurde und Blessington seitdem vollkommen panisch sei. Holmes folgert, dass die beiden Manner es auf Blessington abgesehen haben. Und er sollte mal wieder Recht behalten... -

Holmes glaubt nicht daran und entdeckt stattdessen, dass alle der bisher zerstorten Busten von derselben Gussform stammen, also auch an demselben Ort hergestellt wurden. Als dann noch ein Mord geschieht und in der Jackentasche des Ermordeten ein Foto gefunden wird, gelangt der Detektiv auf die richtige Spur..-

Ein neuer Fall fur Sherlock Holmes! Eigentlich soll sich Holmes ja nur in Reigate erholen, aber ehe er sich versieht, wird er gleich wieder in den nachsten Fall eingespannt: Auf einem nahe gelegenen Gutshof wurde eingebrochen und ein Sammelsurium an Dingen geklaut. Als dann auf dem anderen Gutshof noch ein Mord geschieht, wird schnell klar, dass die beiden Taten zusammenhangen.
