Als Vertreter der konstruktiv-konkreten Kunst zählte Friedrich Vordemberge-Gildewart (1899-1962) zur internationalen Avantgarde des 20. Jahrhunderts. Der Maler, Grafiker und Bildhauer war Mitglied bedeutender Künstlergruppen wie De Stijl, Abstraction Création sowie Cercle et Carré und gründete 1927 mit Kurt Schwitters, Hans Nitschke, Carl Buchheister und Rudolf Jahns die abstrakten hannover. Im Nazi-Deutschland gehörte er zu den verfemten Künstlern und floh 1937 in die Schweiz und später nach Amsterdam. 1954 erhielt er einen Ruf an die Ulmer Hochschule für Gestaltung, wo er bis zu seinem Tod 1962 die Abteilung für visuelle Kommunikation leitete. Vordemberge-Gildewarts vielgestaltiges Lebenswerk enthält neben geometrisch-abstrakten Gemälden, Zeichnungen und Druckgrafik auch Collagen, Fotomontagen und Reliefs, Plakate, Gebrauchsgrafik, Bauplastik und Innenraumdekorationen.

Movement and rest, time and eternity, material and traces are united in the sculptures of Susanne Tunn. The artist's sculptural work is all about detecting the essence of the stone and laying it bare. When working on the stone, she follows the natural structures of the material instead of violently forcing it into a specific form.The book brings together works from the past 30 years. Some of them are presented for the first time ever. Tunn's cycle of works "Die Große Melancholie" (The Great Melancholy) is also showcased in its entirety for the very first time. This cycle is composed of a series of complex, geometrically shaped sculptures made of Andalusian Macael marble, inspired by Albrecht Dürer's famous copperplate engraving "Melencolia I".Aside from working with stone, Susanne Tunn uses liquid tin that can be formed and casts it in grids and various structures of order in her expansive works. In addition, Tunn's exquisite and delicate works on paper, showing objects that seem to dance in a state of zero gravity, are presented in this volume.
