La transplantation de cellules souches hématopoïétiques se caractérise par l'élimination de l'ensemble du système hématopoïétique et immunologique du patient au moyen d'une chimiothérapie, associée ou non à des séances de radiothérapie, et par le remplacement ultérieur des cellules non fonctionnelles par d'autres cellules souches, provenant soit du patient lui-même, soit d'un autre individu, dans le but de rétablir les fonctions physiologiques normales qu'elles remplissent. Il s'agit d'une alternative thérapeutique pour les patients souffrant de diverses maladies malignes et non malignes. En raison de l'affaiblissement du système immunitaire nécessaire à la réalisation de la greffe, les infections sont des complications qui mettent en péril la qualité de vie du patient. L'un des agents infectieux les plus courants est le cytomégalovirus humain, qui entraîne une augmentation substantielle de la morbidité et une réduction des chances de guérison et de vie du patient. L'objectif de cette étude était de vérifier quelles méthodes diagnostiques sont viables pour détecter l'infection par le cytomégalovirus humain chez les patients subissant une transplantation de cellules souches hématopoïétiques et les variables cliniques respectives qui peuvent influencer leur survie.

Il trapianto di cellule staminali ematopoietiche è caratterizzato dall'eliminazione dell'intero sistema ematopoietico e immunologico del paziente mediante chemioterapia, associata o meno a sedute di radioterapia, con la successiva sostituzione delle cellule non funzionanti con altre cellule staminali, provenienti dal paziente stesso o da un altro individuo, allo scopo di ristabilire le normali funzioni fisiologiche svolte dalle stesse. È un'alternativa terapeutica per i pazienti affetti da varie malattie maligne e non. A causa dell'indebolimento del sistema immunitario necessario per effettuare il trapianto, le infezioni sono complicazioni che compromettono la qualità di vita del paziente. Uno degli agenti infettivi più comuni è il citomegalovirus umano, che causa un sostanziale aumento della morbilità e una riduzione delle possibilità di recupero e di vita del paziente. Lo scopo di questo studio è stato quello di verificare quali metodi diagnostici siano validi per rilevare l'infezione da citomegalovirus umano nei pazienti sottoposti a trapianto di cellule staminali ematopoietiche e le rispettive variabili cliniche che possono influenzare la loro sopravvivenza.

El trasplante de células madre hematopoyéticas se caracteriza por la eliminación de todo el sistema hematopoyético e inmunológico del paciente mediante quimioterapia, asociada o no a sesiones de radioterapia, con posterior sustitución de las células no funcionantes por otras células madre, bien del propio paciente o de otro individuo, con el objetivo de restablecer las funciones fisiológicas normales desempeñadas por las mismas. Es una alternativa terapéutica para pacientes con diversas enfermedades malignas y no malignas. Como consecuencia del debilitamiento del sistema inmunitario necesario para llevar a cabo el trasplante, las infecciones son complicaciones que ponen en peligro la calidad de vida del paciente. Uno de los agentes infecciosos más frecuentes es el citomegalovirus humano, que provoca un aumento sustancial de la morbilidad y una reducción de las posibilidades de recuperación y de vida del paciente. El objetivo de este estudio fue verificar qué métodos diagnósticos son viables para detectar la infección por citomegalovirus humano en pacientes sometidos a trasplante de células madre hematopoyéticas y las respectivas variables clínicas que pueden influir en su supervivencia.

Die Transplantation von hämatopoetischen Stammzellen ist gekennzeichnet durch die Ausschaltung des gesamten hämatopoetischen und immunologischen Systems des Patienten durch eine Chemotherapie, auch in Verbindung mit einer Strahlentherapie, und den anschließenden Ersatz der nicht funktionierenden Zellen durch andere Stammzellen, entweder vom Patienten selbst oder von einer anderen Person, mit dem Ziel, die normalen physiologischen Funktionen dieser Zellen wiederherzustellen. Sie ist eine therapeutische Alternative für Patienten mit verschiedenen bösartigen und nicht bösartigen Erkrankungen. Infolge des geschwächten Immunsystems, das für die Durchführung der Transplantation erforderlich ist, sind Infektionen eine Komplikation, die die Lebensqualität des Patienten beeinträchtigt. Einer der häufigsten Infektionserreger ist das humane Cytomegalovirus, das die Morbidität erheblich erhöht und die Heilungs- und Lebenschancen des Patienten verringert. Ziel dieser Studie war es, zu überprüfen, welche diagnostischen Methoden zum Nachweis einer Infektion mit dem humanen Cytomegalie-Virus bei Patienten, die sich einer hämatopoetischen Stammzelltransplantation unterziehen, geeignet sind und welche klinischen Variablen ihr Überleben beeinflussen können.

Haematopoietic stem cell transplantation is characterised by the elimination of the patient's entire haematopoietic and immunological system by means of chemotherapy, whether or not associated with radiotherapy sessions, with subsequent replacement of the non-functioning cells with other stem cells, either from the patient themselves or from another individual, with the aim of re-establishing the normal physiological functions performed by the same. It is a therapeutic alternative for patients with various malignant and non-malignant diseases. As a result of the weakened immune system required to carry out the transplant, infections are complications that jeopardise the patient's quality of life. One of the most common infectious agents is the human cytomegalovirus, which causes a substantial increase in morbidity and a reduction in the patient's chances of recovery and life. The aim of this study was to verify which diagnostic methods are viable for detecting human cytomegalovirus infection in patients undergoing haematopoietic stem cell transplantation and the respective clinical variables that can influence their survival.
