Ce livre vise à examiner les représentations littéraires des Américains arabes/musulmans dans deux romans : Falling Man de Don DeLillo (2007) et Once in a Promised Land de Laila Halaby (2007).Ces deux romans ont été écrits la même année, et représentent des personnages arabo-musulmans dans le cadre de l'événement du 11 septembre, mais sous deux angles différents. Alors que DeLillo représente les Américains arabes/musulmans du point de vue d'un étranger, le roman de Halaby représente l'expérience des Américains arabes/musulmans de l'intérieur. Un certain nombre de concepts introduits dans le cadre de l'approche conceptuelle postcolonialeLe cadre de travail de Homi Bhabha, Edward Said et Bernard Lewis sera utilisé pour une meilleure compréhension. Ces concepts sont : l'identité, l'appartenance, la représentation de l'hybridité culturelle et l'orientalisme.La thèse est divisée en trois chapitres. Le premier chapitre présente les ¿uvres littérairesécrit après le 11 septembre par des Américains et des Américains arabes/musulmans. Il jette également les bases du contexte théorique utilisé dans la thèse. Le deuxième chapitre est consacré à l'analyse de Falling Man de Don DeLillo, tandis que le troisième chapitre se concentre sur Once in a Promised Land.

This book aims at examining the literary representations of Arab/Muslim Americans in two novels: Falling Man by Don DeLillo (2007) and Once in a Promised Land by Laila Halaby (2007). These two novels have Written in the same year,and represent Arab/Muslim characters in the framework of the event of the 9/11, but from two different perspectives. While DeLillo represents Arab/Muslim Americans from the perspective of an outsider, Halaby¿s novel represents the experience of Arab/Muslim Americans from the inside. A number of concepts introduced within the postcolonial conceptualframework in Homi Bhabhäs, Edward Said¿s, Bernard Lewis writings, will be used for a better understanding. These concepts are: identity, belonging, cultural hybridity representation, and Orientalism.The thesis is divided into three chapters. First chapter charts the literary workswritten after 9/11 by both American and Arab/ Muslim Americans. It also lays the ground for the theoretical background used in the thesis. The Second chapter is devoted to the analysis of Don DeLillo¿s Falling Man, while the third chapter shifts the focus to Once in a Promised Land.
