Moreover, it aims to shed light on how useful explicit grammar teaching is, compared to implicit methods.The present paper rests on the hypothesis that non-standard English grammar should be part of grammar teaching in EFL (English as a Foreign Language)classrooms as they are beneficial for students¿ language comprehension. Furthermore, explicit grammar instructions may only be useful for mastering specific target structures; however, languages and their underlying grammar systems may only be acquired implicitly, not by learning grammar rules.

Moreover, illuminative examples of written CF will be presented and discussed based on the findings. The examples are taken from a corpus of a variety of texts written by EFL students attending a pre-vocational school in Austria. Corrective feedback (CF), hence, the way educators provide feedback on the second language (L2) learners¿ errors in hopes of helping them improve their accuracy, has been a highly contested area of research that brings about a phenomenal level of interest from both teachers and researchers alike. Regardless of the interest and research into this field, many questions central to L2 development are yet to be answered unequivocally. Therefore, educators around the world still have to rely on experience, intuition, and expectations of students and parents for the production of written corrective feedback. Ellis argues that the biggest hurdle for re-searchers is designing written CF studies that investigate the effectiveness and impact of different types of CF systemically. Nevertheless, identifying and evaluating written CF options is an important element for reasonable decision-making in the L2 classroom.

For this purpose, one of the oldest and most popular video game franchises ¿The Legend of Zeldä is analysed using a theoretical framework of both game studies and gender studies. The paper aims to give a game overview of three key aspects ¿ story, picture, and characters ¿ focusing on the portrayal of gender norms, and stereotypes. Over the past fifty years, video games have taken over a substantial part of the media entertainment industry, with approximately 5,3 million Austrians playing; 90 % of the most active age group, the ten-to-fifteen-year olds, are playing more than once a month. However, the average Austrian gamer is 54 % male and 46 % female, 35 years old, and spends an average of 11,5 hours per week playing. Video games, as well as any other form of mass entertainment media, can influence players¿ perceptions and expectations around gender identity and gender roles. The stereotypical portrayal of masculinity and femininity, which was a common occurrence in the early history of video games, is especially problematic in reaffirming gender stereotypes. This materialised in a pattern of white, male, heterosexual player characters being sent on a heroic journey, while female characters were often oversexualised while playing a passive role as a love interest for the main character. In this regard, video game heroes and characters, as well as their narrative, were not different from popular cultural movies, comics, and books of the late 20th century.

It will summarize and explain the defining linguistic features, meaning-making elements of texting, and their frequency of use. Therefore, the works of the leading expert on the language of texting, David Crystal, serves as the theoretical basis. To determine how and how often certain features are used, a corpus of text messages will be analyzed.Furthermore, the paper will present the main causes and incentives responsible for the development of these features; it will start with general information on the corpus, followed by a description and analysis of the most commonly used linguistic features, their usage, and purpose.

Seminar paper from the year 2018 in the subject Communications - Movies and Television, grade: 2, University of Linz (Department of English), course: Drama and Film, language: English, abstract: The American science fiction franchise Star Wars was created by George Lucas and presented to the world in 1977 with the release of Star Wars: Episode IV ¿ A New Hope. Un-expectedly, the movie became the highest-grossing film of all time until 1982. Five out of the seven consecutive Star Wars movies, excluding all other standalone Star Wars films, are found on the top 100 list of highest grossing films of all time in Canada and the USA. Despite the popularity of the franchise, it is increasingly criticized for its portrayal of women in a stereotypical fashion; critics claim that the story evolves predominantly around male heroes while objectifying women and giving them only a passive role in the plot.To evaluate these claims, this paper will introduce and compare the most important female characters and their roles throughout the saga. The Star Wars movies are divided into three separate trilogies, each of them having a main female character. The paper will examine if the portrayal of each of those women in their respective trilogy depends on sexist stereotypes or if they are represented negatively in terms of power, sexualization, and characterization. The three female heroines will be discussed in the chronological order of the canonical Star Wars timeline, starting with Star Wars I: The Phantom Menace, and ending with Star Wars VIII: The Last Jedi. Due to the limitations of this paper, the representation of the numerous other female characters throughout the movies will not be analyzed.

Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2018 im Fachbereich Pädagogik - Geschichte der Pädagogik, Note: 1, Johannes Kepler Universität Linz, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: "Eine Ohrfeige hat noch niemandem geschadet." Noch 29 Jahre nach dem Gewaltverbot in der Erziehung findet diese Aussage bei einigen wenigen österreichischen Bürgern weiterhin Zuspruch. Dennoch scheint offensichtlich, dass sich die Gesellschaft und die Pädagogik am Ende eines langen Weges befinden, der weg von der körperlichen und seelischen Gewalt an Kindern und hin zu einer wertschätzenden und respektvollen Erziehungskultur führt.Diese Seminararbeit wirft einen Blick auf die Bedeutung der schwarzen Pädagogik; sie ist eine dunkle Epoche der Erziehungsgeschichte, die ohne Katharina Rutschky fast in Vergessenheit geraten wäre. Nach der Klärung der Definition wird ein historischer Blick auf die gesellschaftlichen Strukturen und die Entwicklung der Pädagogik im Zentraleuropa des 18.- 19. Jahrhunderts geworfen um herauszufinden welche Rahmenbedingungen für die Entstehung der schwarzen Pädagogik nötig waren. In Kapitel 2 und 3 werden die Hintergründe der Ideologien und Wertvorstellungen einer Gesellschaft analysiert, die den systematischen Kindesmissbrauch akzeptiert und sogar einfordert. Es folgt ein Überblick über die Wertestruktur der Menschen um zu klären welche Bildungsziele aus der Wertestruktur abgeleitet wurden. Danach folgt eine Erörterung der Methoden, und somit die Antwort auf die Frage, wie Kinder an eben diese Werte herangeführt werden sollten. Die Methoden werden im Kapitel 4 praxisnah erläutert. Dazu wurden primär Texte aus Katharina Rutschky's Werk "Schwarze Pädagogik, Quellen zur Naturgeschichte der bürgerlichen Erziehung" und dem Buch "Am Anfang war Erziehung" von Alice Miller herangezogen. Die beiden Autorinnen sind die Hauptbegründer der schwarzen Pädagogik. Die Arbeit beschäftigt sich größtenteils mit Texten des 17. bis 19. Jahrhundert, nicht aber mit tagesaktuellen Themen oder der Pädagogik während der beiden Weltkriege.

Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2018 im Fachbereich Pädagogik - Pädagogische Psychologie, Note: 1, Pädagogische Hochschule Oberösterreich, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Mobbing ist ein weit verbreitetes und komplexes Phänomen, das speziell im Schulkontext eine ernsthafte Gefahr für die Psyche und die psychische Entwicklung der Betroffenen darstellt. Für Lehrpersonen und die Schule als Institution ist es eine zentrale Herausforderung, der Ausbreitung von Mobbing entgegenzuwirken. Darum befasst sich diese Arbeit vorerst mit der Prävalenz, den Akteuren und den Arten von Mobbinghandlungen. Weiters wird dargelegt welche negativen Auswirkungen Mobbing auf die Betroffenen haben kann und welche Handlungsmöglichkeiten und Pflichten eine Lehrperson im Mobbingfall hat. Der letzte Teil der Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit den, dem aktuellen Forschungsstand entsprechenden Interventions- und Präventionskonzepten für Lehrpersonen und für die Schule als Ganzes.Eine positive Persönlichkeitsentwicklung von Schülerinnen und Schüler kann nur in einem positiven sozialen Umfeld gelingen. Darum ist es unabdinglich für alle Pädagoginnen und Pädagogen über die Wirkungsweise von Mobbing Phänomenen Bescheid zu wissen, Konzepte für die Prävention und Intervention zu entwickeln und diese kompetent durchzuführen. Diese Arbeit soll eine Grundlage dafür sein.
