Managerial economics provides us a basic insight into seeking solutions for managerial problems. Economics, as the name itself implies, is an offshoot of two distinct disciplines: Economics and Management. In other words, it is necessary to understand what these disciplines are, at least in brief, to understand the nature and scope of managerial economics.

Financial management refers to the functions involved in the management of financial resources. These functions are fund procurement, working capital management, capital budgeting, and capital structure designing of an organization. It includes controlling and maintaining the financial assets of an organization. The basic objective of financial management is to achieve optimal profit, both in the short and long run. It even includes wealth maximization, where every shareholder's value or hold over dividends should increase.
