Alien Immigrants to England is a book written by William Cunningham and published in 1897. The book explores the history of immigration to England, focusing specifically on the influx of alien immigrants from various countries. The author examines the economic, social, and political impact of these immigrants on English society, and provides a detailed analysis of the challenges faced by both the immigrants and the English people. The book also discusses the legal framework governing immigration at the time, including the policies and procedures in place to regulate the entry and settlement of immigrants. Through his research, Cunningham sheds light on the complex and often contentious relationship between England and its immigrant populations, and offers insights into the broader issues surrounding immigration and national identity. Renowned economic historian and clergyman William Cunningham (1849-1919) published this work in 1896, which is considered a companion volume to his seminal Essay on Western Civilisation. Educated at Edinburgh, Cambridge and Tubingen, Cunningham wrote widely on theology and economics. He was a Cambridge lecturer and fellow at Trinity, Professor of Economics at King's College London, a teacher at Harvard, a founding fellow of the British Academy, and President of the Royal Historical Society. Favouring historical empiricism over deductive theory, his work, labelled neo-mercantilist, was against laissez-faire and favoured economic regulation, social religion, and conservative incremental change. This book outlines these views as part of an analysis of the basic units of economic life - exchange, possessions, money, credit, selling, price, labour, trade, profit, interest, rent, wages - and how these interact within capitalism. The work strongly influenced contemporary thought and remains relevant in the historiography of economics.

William Cunningham (1849-1919) was one of the most eminent economic historians of his generation. The author of The Growth of English Industry and Commerce (1882) is seen in a different role in this very approachable and informative set of talks. Early in his career, Cunningham worked as an extension lecturer, and in these six lectures given to teachers on aspects of local history he displays great flair in communicating how history can be brought to life in the classroom. From the creation of the fen landscape in prehistoric times to the historic buildings of its towns, Cunningham explains the unique position and history of Cambridgeshire as a county distinct from its neighbours. He shows teachers how to inspire an interest in history in their pupils by engaging with the parts they can recognise: the surviving buildings, landscapes and traditions of their county, an approach still successful in schools today.

Will's book is a special testimony that is raw, authentic, and heartwarming which is very hard to find in literature these days. Combat and doing dangerous missions and the adrenaline that comes with it is like a drug that provides you with a "high" you crave and need to keep getting. Will does an outstanding job explaining this process and all the physical and emotional highs, lows, drama, and trauma that go with. Will provides real life experiences on how to do things right and how things should not be done. ~ John M. Allison Sr (Lt. Col., USMC, Ret.)
