Nach der erfolgreichen Schlacht von Breitenfeld im September 1631 stand dem Schwedenkönig Gustav Adolf ganz Süddeutschland offen. In einem beispiellosen Siegeszug marschierte er - mit der Absicht, die vom Kaiser und der Katholischen Liga unterdrückten Protestanten zu befreien - mit seiner Armee entlang des Mains zum Rhein und wieder zurück in Richtung Donau. Städte, die sich ihm nicht sofort ergaben, wurden erobert - Würzburg, Oppenheim, Kreuznach, Donauwörth fielen im blutigen Sturmangriff. Als Graf Tilly den Schweden im April 1632 bei Rain am Lech entgegentrat und nochmals unterlag, hatte der König den Weg bis München frei.Erst Wallenstein und sein neues Heer konnte ihm im Juli 1632 an der Alten Veste bei Fürth Paroli bieten.Alle diese Geschehnisse während der 'Deutschen Kriege' wurden im Ausland neugierig verfolgt. Speziell im protestantischen England galt der König der Schweden, der Löwe aus dem Norden, als Hoffnungsträger und Held. Der hier in Übersetzung vorliegende, 1632 in London erschienene, zweite Band der Zeitschrift 'The Swedish Intelligencer', fasst diese aktuellen Fortschritte Gustavs basierend auf Informationen aus kursierenden Flugblätter, Zeitungen und Zeitzeugenberichten angelsächsischer Kriegsteilnehmer akribisch korrekt zusammen. Neben den lebhaften Schilderungen von Marschbewegungen der schwedischen Armee und fesselnden Augenzeugenbeschreibungen der Kämpfe finden sich hier auch die Texte von Kapitulationsvereinbarungen und Abkommen, aus denen Strategie und Beweggründe des Königs ersichtlich werden.
