En ulykke er ikke kun en ulykke.Bogen er skrevet undervejs i en periode i mit liv, hvor mine handlemuligheder blev sat på en pause. Den er skrevet, fordi jeg havde brug for hjælp til at se det positive i en ret traumatisk oplevelse. Jeg har lært så meget, at jeg kan sige - en ulykke er ikke kun en ulykke. En tid i overhalingsbanen er blevet udskiftet med en tid med megen nærhed og nærvær, og mere opmærksomhed på de små ting. Naturen, fuglene, blomsterne og vejrets omskiftelighed. Aldrig følt så megen taknemmelighed.Tage en dag ad gangen og fokusere på hver succes, jeg opnåede, og huske mig selv på, at der var noget, jeg ikke kunne endnu, men til gengæld kunne jeg så meget andet. I 1906 drog den grønlandske polarforsker og opdagelsesrejsende Jørgen Brønlund (1877-1907) afsted på en livsfarlig ekspedition i det nordøstlige Grønland sammen med lægen Ludvig Mylius-Erichsen og kartografen Niels Peter Høeg Hagen. Ekspeditionen gik ikke som planlagt. Rejsekammeraterne kunne ikke finde vej og omkom en efter en af sult, kulde og udmattelse. Jørgen Brønlund var den sidste, der døde, og sammen med hans lig fandt man efterfølgende hans dagbøger og Niels Peter Høeg Hagens kortoptegnelser.I denne bog bruger Niels Fenger Brønlunds dagbogsnotater til at forestille sig hans sidste tid alene på den grønlandske indlandsis, indtil han til sidst må erkende, at solen ikke mere kommer op. Fenger drager i bogen paralleller til andre polarekspeditionen, der fik en tragisk slutning.Niels Fenger (1916-1992) var en dansk pelsdyrsavler og forfatter, der skrev en lang række spændende bøger. Mange af bøgerne beretter om livet med jagt, fiskeri og sejlads, sådan som han selv kendte det, og om Grønland, som han var stærkt knyttet til. Niels Fengers bøger opnåede stor popularitet hos den danske befolkning, og han modtog blandt andet to legater til sit arbejde fra Statens Kunstfond.
