Narayan Tilak was born into a Kokanastha Hindu family on 6 December 1861 in the village of Karajhgaon in Ratnagiri District of Bombay Presidency. On 9 May, he died at J.J. His mind was not formed by studies of Western thinkers in academic circles that were shaped by western education in British India, but he read widely and thought deeply on matters of moment for his people in a colonial situation.

William Pearson is a retired design engineer who for much of his life has been an amateur historian and archaeologist. Articles by him on these subjects have appeared in the journals of various societies in the north-east of England. As a result of a growing awareness of the wider culture of Scandinavia, interest was aroused in the effects that the Viking interventions had on Britain.Erik Bloodaxe and Egil Skallagrimsson came to the fore, both for their narrative possibilities and examples of how events of the Viking period have come to be distorted and misunderstood. The eventual result is this book. The life of Erik begins with his background and career in Norway followed by his overseas adventures. After seizing power in northern England he met a violent death there. Also covered is much of the life of the Icelander Egil Skallagrimsson, who tried his best to be a thorn in the side of Erik and his wife Gunnhild. After Erik fell his kin fought desperately to maintain eminence. Certain anomalies showed up involving the identities of some of the characters and the places where events are said to or are believed to have taken place. For instance, students of these times have long disputed the location of the important Battle of Brunanburh. Jerry Evans was a student-athlete in high school and at UCLA. He played basketball for John Wooden, competed in track for Ducky Drake, both coaching legends, and played on the second UCLA Volleyball team to win a national collegiate volleyball championship before volleyball became an NCAA sport. He was involved in sports for most of his life. Upon graduation from UCLA, he received an ROTC commission as a Second Lieutenant of Infantry in the US Army. He served in the Army for 25 years in both Infantry and Military Intelligence. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel after serving in Korea, Panama, Germany, Vietnam, and the United States. After the Army, he was the Human Resource Director for the St Francis Hotel in San Francisco and later a Labor Relations/Management Consultant for 14 major hotels in San Francisco. He is now retired, living with his wife, Rose, in Rancho Mirage, CA. Their combined family has given them 8 children, 14 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
