Social Cause is a collection of issues that plague modern society frequently and that many individuals work to resolve. It frequently results from external causes that are out of a person's control. Social issues are conditions or behaviours that have a detrimental effect on society's constituents and call for a remedy. That is, these social issues affect both individuals and big groups of people, causing disturbance or misery. On the basis of what is viewed as morally right or wrong personal life or interpersonal social life decisions, social issues are the source of divergent perspectives. Although social and economic concerns are distinct from one another, some issues (like immigration) contain both social and economic components. There may be differences of opinion regarding which social problems are more important to address than others. There are several perspectives held by people and communities. Thomas Paine discusses the responsibility of each person to "grant the same rights to others as we give ourselves" in Rights of Man and Common Sense. Failure to do so results in the development of a social problem. People utilise a range of strategies to address societal challenges. In a democracy, some elect officials to further their ideals. People give or share their time, money, energy, or other resources outside of the political process. The most common form of this is volunteering. The sole objective of non-profit organisations is frequently to address a societal problem. There is more to social action than just a reality check in present times according to the prevalent societal circumstances. More action is becoming the new paradigm. It involves thinking creatively and strategically about your objective and potential implementation methods. Initiatives for social causes are about pushing the boundaries of what is possible and doing more.

Back from the Living Dead, first published in 1945, is the first-hand account of Army Air Corps Major Burt Bank's experiences as part of the Bataan Death March and his subsequent prison camp experiences in Camp O'Donnell, Davao Penal Colony, and Cabanatuan, Philippines. In January 1945, Bank was part of the group of surviving POWs freed by U.S. Army Rangers. Back from the Living Dead was one of the first post-war accounts detailing the Death March and prisoner of war atrocities. Author Bertram Bank (1914-2009), from Tuscaloosa, Alabama, would go on to serve in Alabama's House of Representatives and Senate, and was also the founder of the Alabama Football Radio Network.

Berger war in der ersten Hälfte des 20. Jahrhunderts einer der wichtigsten Politiker und bekannter Schriftsteller im mitteldeutschen Raum. Er war führend an der Entwicklung des Sachsen-Anhalt-Planes als Kernstück der Überwindung der staatlichen Zersplitterung Mitteldeutschlands beteiligt und wirkte bei der Entstehung des mitteldeutschen Landes unter den Bedingungen der Zeit nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg und sowjetischer Besatzung mit. Damit gehört er zu den "Gründervätern" Sachsen-Anhalts.

Francisca Raposo, geb. 1968, lebte Anfang der 1980er Jahre in einem mosambikanischen Dorf, als der Direktor ihrer Schule eine Ankündigung machte, die ihr Leben veränderte: Es wurde nach begabten Kindern gesucht, die ihre Schullaufbahn in der DDR fortsetzen durften. Francisca wusste nicht, was das für ein Land war, aber sie wusste eines: Sie wollte unbedingt dorthin. Mit 900 anderen Kindern kam sie 1982 nach Staßfurt an die "Schule der Freundschaft". Was sie dort erlebte, aber auch, wie ihr Leben in Mosambik nach der Rückkehr 1988 weiterging, erzählt Francisca Raposo in diesem Buch. Ihre authentischen Schilderungen geben Einblicke in ein Kapitel der jüngeren Geschichte, das vielen Menschen bis heute verborgen geblieben ist.

Samurai!, first published in 1957, is the war-time account of Saburo Sakai, the leading Japanese fighter ace to survive the Second World War. Sakai, born in 1916, hoped to escape the poverty of life in his rural village by enlisting in the Imperial Japanese Navy at age 16. In 1937, he graduated at the top of his pilot-training class, and soon saw combat in China. Later, against the Allies, Sakai engaged in more than two hundred dogfights, from the Philippines to Iwo Jima, and by war's end had reportedly downed a staggering total of 64 Allied aircraft. His most renowned accomplishment occurred after action over Guadalcanal in August 1942; partially paralyzed and nearly blind from multiple wounds, Sakai managed to fly his damaged plane 560 miles to Rabaul and safely land his Zero fighter. By the end of World War II he had logged 3,700 flight hours, including some 1,500 hours in the Zero. Samurai! provides a unique look into the Samurai character and the human emotions of soldiers in any war, regardless of race or nationality.
