De naam Van Der Stuyft doet bij de meeste wielerliefhebbers een belletje rinkelen. Niet minder dan vier renners uit de familie Van Der Stuyft maakten furore in de pioniersjaren van het wielrennen. Oervader Fritz Vanderstuyft was deelnemer aan de eerste Parijs-Roubaix in 1896. Zijn zoon Arthur Van Der Stuyft was een succesvol pisterenner en werd drie maal wereldkampioen achter derny's. De jongste zoon van Fritz, Léon, was ook een berucht pisterenner en werd vooral bekend door een ultieme snelheidsrecord van 127 km/u dat hij vestigde op een autoparcours rond Parijs, een record dat wel 80 jaar op de tabellen zou blijven staan. De carrière van Freddy Van Der Stuyft, zoon van Arthur, werd jammer genoeg gefnuikt door een zware val. Auteur René Lux is een kleinzoon van de wielrenner Arthur Van Der Stuyft. Als kind hoorde hij de straffe verhalen over de wielergeschiedenissen in de familie Van Der Stuyft. De auteur kreeg postkaarten en privéfoto's van zijn wielergrootvader in handen. Met de jaren groeide deze verzameling met kranten, magazines, posters en postkaarten. Zo ontstond de droom om de wielerfamilie vanderstuyft te eren met een boek, een straf stuk Belgische wielerhistorie over vier generaties renners die letterlijk en figuurlijk grenzen overstegen.

Durocher, suspended for a year in a feud with Yankee owner Larry MacPhail, would return to the Dodgers in 1948 but was let go and hired by the rival New York Giants where he stayed until the end of the 1955 season. In 1966, Durocher returned to baseball as manager of the Chicago Cubs (1966-1972), and the Houston Astros (1972-73), before retiring. Durocher passed away in 1991 at the age of 86.
