Im ersten Teil des Buches finden Sie meine Gedanken zu so Dingen wie "Lieblingswetter", "CDs, Kassetten und Co.", aber auch zu einer "Drohung per WhatsApp" und "bulsterigen Gemütslagen" :-). Der zweite Teil des Büchleins widmet sich kleinen Tagträumereien, die rein meiner Fantasie entsprungen sind und von Orten handeln, die ich mir gern vorstelle. Sie sich wohl auch? :-)

This volume is the fourth in a series of genealogy books that I have been working on for several years. It focuses on the Insúa and Harguindey clans, who were my mother's relatives and lived in Buenos Aires and surroundings areas. I have tried to collect and preserve the stories, photos and documents that tell the history of these families and their descendants in this book.

One of the Fifteen Million, first published in 1952, is Ukrainian Nicholas Prychodko's sobering account of his arrest, imprisonment, torture, and eventual exile to Siberia by the Soviet government in the late 1930s. As the author states, his offense was "thinking free thoughts in a slave state." In a near-miracle, his mother traveled to Moscow and the Kremlin, and was able to win a pardon for her son from a sympathetic official. Making his way back to the Ukraine, Prychodko found work as a teacher, but again facing arrest, he decides to go into hiding rather than face years of hard labor in the Siberian gulag. In a strange twist of fate, the approaching German army in 1941 proved to be his salvation, and the author begins a journey to freedom in Canada.

Detailed descriptions of the region's flora, fauna and beautiful landscapes provide a backdrop to accounts of their daily lives, relationships and hardships. It recounts their lives on the Aliso farm, and the early years of school and work opportunities in neighboring communities.Harriet Thurston Buchheim Mather, one of fifteen Thurston children, describes CHILDREN OF ALISO as "the story of a single family of pioneers taken from among the many who formed an integral part of the romantic Southland in days that are forever gone-gone, not simply from the standpoint of the passing of time, but of the vanishing of an era."

In July 2021 I met with the authors of this unique volume - Conor Cook and Grace Brown. This was an unusual interview with a pair of authors.We met in the home of my son, Bruce Cook and reminisced over extracts from historical collections about homes of the David C. Cook family - my father David C. Cook III, my Grandfather David C. Cook II, and my Great Grandfather - David C. Cook I -often called "The Friend of the Sunday School."Now, to be honest, Conor and Grace are my grandchildren, and I love their talent for writing. And, while we got together to share historical vignettes, I should mention that we also enjoyed my son's barbeque cooking and a plate of cookies just prepared by his wife and my daughter, Helen Brown. And, thanks to my wife, Mary Homeier Cook, for suggesting this book.

This book is a combination of my two previous books. Memories and Poems from a Sunny Clime published in 2016 and my book of poems published in 2017.

The child in the mirror is a compilation of poems encompassing the struggles of a troubled childhood; a childhood of abuse, a childhood of neglect and a childhood bordering on suicidal intent. These poems were created to build an awareness of atrocities toward children, while also giving a voice to the voiceless. They also encapsulate the reality of love and loss at a tender age, which have a serious impact on children in their formative years. These poems also expose the horrific realities of a broken home, leading to stressful mental and physical trauma. They also bring into focus what is in the mind of a child, but with the introspection of a middle aged adult. Interestingly, it would appear that it is at this mature stage in life, that adults tend to muster the courage to open up about painful events in their past. The aim is that even one person will benefit from reading this book and realize that there is hope, despite adversity. If some child, young adult or even mature person, can relate to an experience expressed in one or more of these poems, may it bring comfort to know that someone has shared your experience and has now overcome to tell the tale. It is my story. It is your story. It is the story of a child who is now an adult, looking back in time through the eyes of 'the child in the mirror'.

But when the noise stopped then they were worried because they knew that the rocket was about to drop - on them!David, hanging in a basket inside an air raid shelter, was oblivious to all of this for he was just a baby.Growing up in West London he spoke with a cockney accent even though he wasn't a true cockney. He went to a good school and later to an art college but not being impressed with the lifestyle of an artist or of an interior designer he left and got an ordinary job, His sporting interests included rowing with a club on the nearby River Thames and gaining instruction in the sport of judo but at the age of 18 he was looking for something more, an adventure.He joined up for a three-year stint in a colonial police force in Southern Rhodesia and never looked back. He lost his cockney accent, learned a lot about police work and the native Rhodesians, both black and white, and his three-year stint turned into over ten.Then using his police experience he started two successful private security companies, one in Rhodesia, the other in South Africa, and later emigrated to British Columbia in Canada where he started a third.In 1984 he began working for the Canadian government, firstly in a security capacity and later in their commercial sector before taking early retirement on December 31st, 1999, and moving to the United States at the beginning of the new millennium.Now in his fifth country of residence, he resurrected his artistic talents and began selling his art at various shows in the south-eastern United States. He also joined a local rowing club and within a few months was their manager and coach.He has enjoyed many years of travel to over forty countries, has lived in five on three different continents and continues to live a healthy lifestyle which includes kayaking, cycling and plenty of walking.
