America has vastly changed from its originality. Its roots are no longer foundationally secured, and its context has fallen into historical negationism. Original text and the fruit of actions are neglected, and history has been interpreted by popular opinion. This poem is a reflection of the seeds of the past that were planted and watered by our Founders and how, over time, infiltration of germination from some of the very weeds our Founders warned have sprouted "fundamental change" to originality, revising text, pluralizing truth, strangling freedom's roots, and distorting the reality of moral principles. What was America then?Who are we now?Which "truth" will you salute?

"There is an emotional breadth and depth to Tim's work that is palpable. A deep sense of abiding presence and immediacy felt in each poem; as if he's sitting there with you, across some table in a comfortable, darkened café. Two friends, swapping stories. Time well spent. And his words: the kind of intimate and profound vignettes about what colors our thoughts, holds our spirits captive, ruminates in the deepest parts of our mind." -Vincent Larson, author of "Ashtapadi: Webs of Light.""Like Whitman before him, Timothy Tarkelly takes anything and everything as his subject, and of particular interest to both poets is the human condition. The deep empathy Tarkelly shows the characters who populate his work anchors this collection, particularly in those poems he uses to examine his own past. But he's no narcissist, reserving the bulk of his attention for the world around him, even when he is present in a given poem, and that is one of his greatest strengths.Another asset is the pure relatability of these pieces. Tarkelly's chosen topics range from history to religion, emotional health to love and longing, workaday life to consumerism-in other words, issues most of us grapple with every day. And he addresses them in language that is accessible to all: those who are new to poetry, those who have been reading verse for years, and even those who think they have no interest in the enterprise. Such a writer is a rare gem, and I propose that we keep this one in our collection." -Caitlin Johnson, Author of "Gods in the Wilderness" and "WAR/La Guerre""Tim Tarkelly's poetry is another example that the best poetry right now is coming out of the midwest. 21st-century modernist truths for a second lost generation who long for the little moments of life so they can yearn for more."-Daniel W. Wright, Author of "Brian Epstein Died for You"

Evasion Therapy is the evolution of unresolved grief. It is a toppling collection of avoidance. A bewildered assembly of one foot out the door. Each poem serves as a pawn in pursuit of eluding darkness-of always keeping the light on. Circumventing governance with a zoom in button. The flaw in evasion is its root in running. Eventually, your feet forget. Eventually, the bulb burns out.

Life on earth goes around in circles. It is like the sun that rises and sets without tiring. As it rises it arouses hope in everyone's life and when it sets it brings about peace and tranquility. By repeating its routine of setting and rising the sun changes seasons, bringing rain and propelling wind, all of which sustain plants, animals and all living creatures. This energy also stirs the waves in the oceans. Katu kowa is a diverse collection of over 150 poems, with contributions from students at the University of Namibia. The book, through the various themes, praises life on earth emphasizing a person's continual hunger and thirst for new heights even after reaching the very top. We always aspire for more, never truly satisfied with our accomplishments. Similarly, the reader will not be satiated from the sweetness of the poems in this book. This book is entirely written in Otjiherero.

  • von Michelle Lizet Flores

"Mixing magic and street smarts as easily as English and Spanish, Michelle Lizet Flores gifts us with an intimate but unflinching exploration of the self and the many pasts that shape it. Her Cuban roots and female ancestors imbue her American life and children with a dense, palpable other-worldliness we are the richer for. These poems don't simply celebrate: they show us how to conjure and animate into being a life fully present in all its timelessness."-Andres Rojas, author of Third Winter in our Second Country (Trio House Press, 2021)"Invasive Species plants the reader like a frog on a Florida porch as the sky oranges, time passes, a mother passes, children are born, people pass, hurricanes come and go, the sky goes violet and days become many nights. How much peace we make in all that change depends on the type of lessons we gleaned and the character we were fortunate enough to forge over the fires of hard lessons. Flores teaches us 'how to heal with words rather than herbs.' If not handled correctly, the act of growing can feel invasive and chaotic. However, there is a calm and understood feeling of necessity in the pain that guides Flores' words from poem to poem to beat to story to song. Invasive Species doesn't capture a place, time, history, culture, and simply present it; it captures you, collects you, and keeps you in a jar with these places, people, times, etc. Flores presents Gothic Florida in a Cuban dress, says: 'y que?', and confirms 'It's a verifiable fact / that whiskey tastes best / when you drink it on your porch / while staring at an orange sky.'"-C.L. "Rooster" Martinez, a San Antonio poet and author of A Saint for Lost Things (Alabrava Press, 2020), As it is in Heaven (Kissing Dynamite Press, 2020), and Mexican Dinosaur (Write About Now Press, 2023)"Michelle Lizet Flores' Invasive Species contains the expansive magic required to dress the wounds of heartbreak and survival. Part vexed, Floridian pastoral, part ode to diasporic selfhood, this book enthralled me with its vivid voice, its persistent attention to a self always at odds with geography, familial inheritance, and grief's long tenure. Rooted in hurricanes and heat, Flores invades a southern stillness-she runs the page. And in that surge, this book will upend how you look at the miracle of our temporary bodies, of motherhood and the fleeting moments that compose an undying kind of love. For me, Invasive Species illuminates the dark hallways of life-death and its inevitable lessons-and the conjuro needed to remake the world and to carry on. I invite you to encounter the exposed nerve of these deep roots; "the kind our abuelas taught us to boil, / the kind our children consume."-Jessica Q. Stark, author of Savage Pageant (Birds, LLC, 2020) and Buffalo Girl (BOA Editions, 2023)

  • von Narayan Surve
    35,00 €

Abandoned soon after birth, Narayan Gangaram Surve (1926-2010) wasbrought up by mill workers, but left to fend for himself once again at the ageof twelve in the chawls of Mumbai. He grew up in the streets of the big city, taught himself to read and write-working as doffer boy in a textile mill, asweeper, a peon-and became a school teacher and a celebrated revolutionarypoet. An abiding allegiance to the workers' movement was the thread that ranthrough his extraordinary journey. His poetry was thus as much ammunition tofight the good fight as it was art. It evolved a new idiom, written in the Marathispoken on the streets, freely borrowing words from Hindi or English, unafraidto break literary conventions upheld by the cultured elite. As he puts it, thepeople were 'my holy books, my scriptures, my gurus'.Surve makes no pretence to objectivity. His verse is unostentatious, unabashedlyso. He wants to write about, and for, the masses. There's no attempt to idealizethem, however-to gloss over the ugliness of life-for he is one of them. Hissubjects let their guard down and speak their minds. Activists crack jokes whileputting up posters, a sex worker hustles her client, and a butcher remembershow he lost his leg in a riot trying to save a woman from his co-religionists.The mill worker and farmer know exactly who oppresses them; there is angerin them. For all the misery we come across, though, these are not poems ofdespair, but, instead, of a dogged optimism.Jerry Pinto renders a broad selection of Surve's poetry into colourful yeteffortless English verse, retaining both its raw energy and immediacy, and theessence of its unyielding commitment to a better future.
