  • von Sueli de Melo Miranda
    26,45 €

Very few in the world outside of the Tamil country have heard the name of the poet whose work is presented here in a new English garb. And yet he is one of those seers whose message is intended not merely for their own age or country but for all time and for all mankind. Born a member of one of the depressed castes and bred up to the profession of weaving, which was his only means of livelihood till the day came for him to renounce all worldly ties, Thiruvalluvar has given to the world a work to which, in perfection of form, profundity of thought, nobleness of sentiment, and earnest-ness of moral purpose, very few books outside the grand scriptures of humanity can at all be compared. Indeed his work is eulogized by the Tamil people as the Tamil Veda, the Universal Veda, the later Veda, the Divine Book etc., etc. It is a great pity that such a treasure should have been confined for so many ages only to one single people even in Hindusthan.

  • von Emily Isaacson

The Fleur-de-lis, a document by woman poet Emily Isaacson, was born from the confines of her imprisonment, producing over 800 poems in both English and French. Hailed as a mystic, her free-verse poetry astounded critics, earning her recognition as a distinguished figure in Canadian literature, with The Fleur-de-lis being likened to a royal bouquet that has traversed the borders to England.Crafted for a prince, the collection now stands as a regal compilation in one volume, bearing the authentic words and personal seal of its enigmatic creator. Isaacson's poems, akin to mini speeches, manage to forge an intimate connection with readers. The fleur-de-lis, her enduring symbol, becomes a powerful metaphor for valour, standing resolute against the challenges she faced. The poems, whose recipients have been recluses, monks, and ministers, resonate in convents but face rejection in churches. The dichotomy of her gift, viewed by some as divine and others as witchcraft, only adds layers to the mystique surrounding Isaacson's work.As history approached the conclusion of the Queen's era, the Royal Rose, Isaacson's poems transcended their temporal origins, becoming timeless expressions that would uplift and resonate with readers. Her legacy endures, casting her as the Queen of distant lands and closer hearts, leaving an indelible call through the corridors of time and offering a beacon of hope for next generations.

  • von Joseph P Ainsley
    46,00 €

In my poem 'Life's Vagaries' I describe observations of a tattooed female, shuffling along in the market place with her boyfriend and the sign on a nearby church inviting people to 'light candles'. My emotional response is to juxtapose the meaning of love with religion. This book of poems expresses a wide range of experiences as I create responses to major themes in life such as birth, love and death. Covering over seventy years, the poems show how an early religious upbringing can leave its almost 'Freudian' imprint. This can be seen in 'Lessons of War' one of my early memories. My interest in philosophy is demonstrated in the poem 'Stages of Life in a Dressing Gown' where I reach a mid-life crisis and almost press the self destruct button...but thankfully recover to continue the journey. Hope you will join the journey with me and see life from a different perspective.

"Moonsong expands the definition of philosophy. It seeks to understand the nature of existence, knowledge, thought, religion, and the meaning of life. Whether looking at space exploration, the creation of the universe, or cave paintings in the Pyrenees, Clive's poems advise 'there is no darkness, only light, everywhere and always'. Where the hiss of atoms jostling in the air' can be experienced on a 'mundane Monday morning' train journey to work, or a night spent drinking with God might result in a 'discount Judgement Day where all that is saved is the receipt,' the poet also celebrates the simple pleasure of whisky and a radio in a shed at 3 a.m." (Morag Anderson, 2023 Aryamati Pamphlet Winner)"'No-one can see you on the dark side of the Moon, / but on the dark side of the Moon, you can see further / than anyone in the Earthshine ever has.' This section from Bondarenko Crater, about a cosmonaut who died in a tragic accident, sets the tone for this wonderful collection. Dark and light, shadows and brightness, all gathered together in one glorious place." (Fin Hall, poet, producer, filmmaker, performer)"Real things and things of the mind: all dealt with via a trenchant, tender voice that ought to strike a chord with anyone accustomed to the joys of poetry."
