You never forget your first true love... Tony Romano's life was torn apart at age fifteen when his father died. Intelligent, artistic, and charismatic, the happy-go-lucky kid was thrust into a new world too fast. Suddenly relocated from New Jersey to Belle Glade, Florida, he found himself being raised by the violent, merciless streets. Those streets seemed to be cursed, but right across the way lived a blessing. Cassidy Macklin was raised by her grandmother for most of her life. Smart, creative, and kind-hearted, she does her utmost to prevent her circumstances from bringing her down. Reading helps her escape to a different life and place, even if only in her imagination, and Grandmama's soulful food is the balm that heals her heart and keeps her world afloat. It doesn't hurt that the new kid who moved in across the street is easy on the eyes and an interesting cover to a book she's yet to read. Tony and Cassidy form an instant connection, but darkness rears its head and things fall apart, bringing havoc and turmoil to their lives. Years later, as adults, the two cross paths, and Tony is determined to win back his first love by any means necessary. They both must come to terms with the monsters of their past, the reality of their present, and the promise of the future. From USA Today bestselling author Tiana Laveen comes a coming-of-age, emotional scars, best friends-to-lovers romance packed with nostalgia, suspense, and passion. Gumbo is a standalone novel with a HEA (Happily-ever-after). This book includes mature themes and content that may not be suitable for all audiences; reader discretion is advised. The people of Judah, enjoying a period of peace and prosperity, are apathetic and blissfully unaware of the terrible fate that looms over them. Little do they know that events in faraway Assyria will soon lead to the greatest catastrophe their small kingdom has ever known.Little do they know that the future of their realm, even their very continued survival, has in fact been entrusted to a handful of mere children - children that will be forced to endure a lifetime of suffering that will make or break their nation's destiny.Day of Darkness is a reconstruction of the story of the destruction of Jerusalem in 586 BCE by the Babylonians - a story of unspeakable horror, yet also of awe-inspiring faith and unstoppable hope. It shows that there can be light in the midsts of the darkest night; hope in the deepest despair; and restoration for those who have lost everything.

THE regard which every one has for the old French provinces is by no means inexplicable. Out of them grew the present solidarity of republican France, but in spite of it the old limits of demarcation are not yet expunged. One and all retain to-day their individual characteristics, manners, and customs, and also a certain subconscious atmosphere. Many are the casual travellers who know Normandy and Brittany, at least know them by name and perhaps something more, but how many of those who annually skim across France, in summer to Switzerland and in winter to the Riviera or to Italy, there to live in seven-franca-day pensions, and drink a particularly vile brand of tea, know where Brittany leaves off and Normandy begins, or have more than the vaguest of vague notions as to whether the charming little provincial capital of Nantes, on the Loire, is in Brittany or in Poitou. A recollection of their school-day knowledge of history will help them on the latter point, but geography will come in and puzzle them still more. There are many French writers, and painters for that matter, who have made these provinces famous. Napoleon, perhaps, set the fashion, when he wrote, in 1786, that eulogy beginning: ¿It is now six or seven years since I left my native country.¿ More familiar is the ¿Native Land¿ of Lamartine. Camille Flammarion wrote ¿My Cradle,¿ meaning Champagne; Dumas wrote of Villers-Cotterets, and Chateaubriand and Renan of Brittany; but head and shoulders above them all stand out Frederic Mistral and his fellows of the Félibres at Avignon and Arles.
