Martha erhält zu ihrem 75. Geburtstag am 21. August 2011 ein ungewöhnliches Geschenk: Ein Jahresabo für das Fitnessstudio. Eines Tages sieht sie auf einem der Laufbänder einen gutaussehenden jungen Mann namens Marius Fuerster, trainieren. Sie ist überzeugt, ihn zu kennen und schaut neugierig zu ihm hin. Als sein Blick den ihren trifft, wird sie ohnmächtig. Von diesem Moment an nimmt Marthas Schicksal eine seltsame Wendung. Sie glaubt, bereits im 13. Jahrhundert als Isadora in Sizilien gelebt zu haben. Ihre große Liebe war damals ein junger Maler, Matteo, den sie in besagtem Marius Fuerster wiederzuerkennen meint. Martha durchlebt nun eine Zeit des Zweifels und des Schmerzes. Um dem Geheimnis ihres früheren Daseins auf den Grund zu gehen, beschließt sie in die Mongolei zu fliegen und einen sehr bekannten Schamanen, Burgediin Kahn, zu suchen. Er wird ihr helfen, Licht in das Dunkel zu bringen. Inzwischen wird auch Marius klar, dass er schon früher gelebt haben muss. Nach einer langen, ereignisreichen und schmerzhaften Odyssee wird auch er das Geheimnis seines früheren Lebens lüften können.
