This book aims to place the Ottoman Empire within its proper context in the Napoleonic Age and calls for a recognition of the crucial role of the Sublime Porte in the War of Second Coalition (1798-1802). The Ottoman-Russian joint naval expedition (1798-1800) to the Ionian Islands under the French occupation provides the framework for an examination of the Ottoman willingness to join the European system of alliance in the Napoleonic age which brought the victory against France in the Levant in the War of Second Coalition (1798-1802). Collections of the Ottoman Archives and Topkap¿ Palace Archives in Istanbul as well as various chronicles and treatises in Turkish supply most of the primary sources for this dissertation. Appendices, charts and maps are provided to make the findings on the expedition, finance aand logistics more readable.

Weltkriegs veränderte sich der Alltag in Schussenried insbesondere durch die Einberufung der Soldaten an die Front und später die immer umfangreicher werdenden Nachrichten über die gefallenen Söhne und Väter aus Schussenried. Das Ortsbild änderte sich auch durch die stationierten Soldaten auf dem Flugplatz Reichenbach und den dortigen wechselnden Einheiten. Der Einmarsch der Franzosen und Marokkaner bedeutete große Zäsur für die Bevölkerung. Den Alltag in der Nachkriegszeit unter Besatzungsrecht zu meistern, eine entsprechende Herausforderung.

Älä toki pakettien lähettämisen iloa meiltä kiellä, kirjoitti Siiri-äiti, kun poika yritti toppuutella. Kodin ja sotarintaman välinen tiivis ja elintärkeä yhteydenpito onnistui kenttäpostin välityksellä. Kirjeitä lukemalla voi vain aavistella kirjeiden ja pakettien merkitystä henkistä suojaa ja turvaa tuovana yhdyssiteenä. Paketeilla oli ajoittain myös huomattava merkitys sotilaan ruoka- ja vaatehuollon kannalta.  Tämän päivän ihmisille sota-ajan kirjeet kertovat selviytymistarinan, tarinan siitä kuinka sodan huolien ja pelkojen keskellä voi luoda kallisarvoisia rauhan hetkiä. Niitä tarjosivat kirjeiden kirjoittaminen ja niiden lukeminen, huolenpidon osoittaminen ja vastaanottaminen sekä luontokokemukset ja muistoissa niihin palaaminen.

Any veteran who served on active duty during the Korean and Vietnam Wars quickly learned that the U.S. military had its own unique language. "Nice Talk, GI," is a compilation of terminology used, overheard, or encountered by the author during his service with the U.S. Army from 1969 to 1971. An invaluable resource was the author's own "Soldier Notebooks," kept during BCT and AIT. Also, while stationed in Korea, he served with a number of Vietnam War Veterans, and learned a significant amount of technology from them. An invaluable source was provided by access to Pacific Stars & Stripes newspaper from the era. While the work does not claim to be definitive, it is representative of terminology used by military personnel between 1950 and 1975.
