Pioneer Aviators records the various stages of man's journey into the skies, taking the reader from the earliest years of experimentation, through the early age of ballooning, into heavier-than-air flight, our ventures into space and even all the way back around to modern human-powered vessels. The book introduces the reader to almost three hundred aviation pioneers and the aircraft they flew, and is illustrated throughout with photographs mostly from the author's own collection. Due to the historical importance of these aircraft - and as a tribute to those who flew them - many are now housed in museums across the world. Without the efforts and sacrifices of the pioneers, we would not have the aviation industry of today.

World War II (hereafter referred to as WWII) is a fascinating era in fashion, society, and politics. The fashion of the era was truly representative of the events happening in the world in a most visible way. This era made indelible marks on future designers and the science of fashion as the world knows it. Fashion and costume design were influenced and changed due to the many limitations presented and imposed by WWII. WWII represents a great marker of change socially, technologically, economically, and politically. While it affected the entire world, the main focus of this thesis will explore the effect of WWII on fashion and costume design on the United States and Britain.

The origin of the phrase 'Arbeit Macht Frei' is in the name of a novel from 1873 written by German philologist and novelist Lorenz Diefenbach (1806-1883). The Weimar Republic's government and the Nazi regime adopted this phrase. The Nazis placed it on several camps' gateways as misdirection, with contempt and irony, to instill false hopes in the prisoners' minds and prevent resistance and insurrection.This book focuses on the various representations, meanings, and interpretations of the image 'Arbeit Macht Frei' in artworks. Among the artists are Holocaust survivors, second-generation descendants of Holocaust survivors, and others. They have used the inscription as a motif from a personal or general point of view to convey political statements and messages, or to present values, morals, or universal perceptions.

And the Project's Los Alamos, New Mexico site where the bomb was perfected was supposed to have the tightest security of the project's other 37 installations across the United States. Evidence from Soviet and American sources have proven that at least three-and as many as six-Communist spies penetrated the security system at Los Alamos and shared the secret of the atomic bomb with the Stalin regime in the Soviet Union before the end of World War II. So schaffte das US-Transportation Corps unter anderem deutsche Loks wie die Dampfmotorlokomotive 19 1001, die "Kamel"-Lokomotive und andere Lokomotiven in die USA. Ziel: Die Lokomotiven von militärischen und zivilen US-Experten genau untersuchen zu lassen. Und zu schauen, ob sie daraus neue Erkenntnisse für sich selbst erhalten könnten.Die damals angefertigten Berichte sind seit einiger Zeit zugänglich und wurden für deutsche Interessenten übersetzt. En 2010, los soldados alemanes en Afganistán se vieron envueltos en los combates más intensos desde la creación de la Bundeswehr. The beginning of Tiglath-Pileser's I reign, laid heavy involvement in military campaigns, as suggested from translated texts from the Middle Assyrian period. The texts were believed to be "justification of war." Although little literary text is available from the time of Tiglath-Pieser I, there is evidence to show that the reign of Tiglath-Pileser I inspired the act of recording information, including that of his military campaigns. Toward the end of Tiglath-Pileser's reign literary texts took the form of "summary texts" which served as a vessel for as much information about his reign as possible, with the intent to be handed down to his successor.

Why I wrote this BookI became interested in writing about the Vietnam War from my own perspective when I saw TV documentaries showing marines and some army soldiers indiscriminately burning Vietnamese thatch houses, destroying livestock and capturing old men, women and children. Those documentaries give a negative impression to the American public, that all American soldiers did that. This book is to tell the readers from my own personal combat experiences, that there were American soldiers and ARVN Rangers who fought and died courageously against the Viet Cong guerillas and North Vietnamese Army soldiers without harming old men, women or children. On my tour of duty from 1966 to 1967, my recon platoon, my 4th/12th Battalion, my 199th Brigade and the gallant South Vietnamese Black Panther Rangers that fought and died beside us, did not burn any thatch houses or shoot any innocent civilians.

Neben den Toten einer Zivilgemeinde ruhen hier dicht an dicht bedeutende Persönlichkeiten der preußisch-deutschen Militärgeschichte, darunter die Generäle Gerhard David von Scharnhorst und Friedrich Bogislav Emanuel Graf Tauentzien von Wittenberg, die in den Befreiungskriegen zu Ruhm und Ehren gelangten. Nicht weniger bedeutend sind Künstler wie Karl Friedrich Schinkel, Friedrich August Stüler und Christian Daniel Rauch, denen einzigartige Schöpfungen der Grabmalskunst auf diesem Friedhof verdankt werden. Seit 1945 an der Sektorengrenze gelegen, verschwanden große Teile des Friedhofs ab 1961 unter dem Todesstreifen, während die vor der Mauer gelegenen Grabfelder jahrzehntelang stark vernachlässigt wurden. Mit der 1990 einsetzenden Restaurierung zahlreicher Grabstätten und der Wiederherstellung von Wegen, Alleen und Grabgittern ist die einstige Ausstrahlung des Friedhofs wieder erlebbar, ohne dass die Spuren der jüngsten deutschen Geschichte verleugnet werden.

This book presents a collection of annotated English translations of German diplomatic documents-including telegrams, dispatches and reports-sent to the Foreign Office in Berlin and the German Ambassador in Hankou, China, by German diplomatic officials in Nanjing, and detailing Japanese atrocities and the conditions in and around Nanjing during the early months of 1938. The author visited the German Federal Archives (Bundesarchiv) and the German Foreign Ministry Archives (Auswartiges Amt Archiv) in Berlin, where these documents are currently archived, in 2008, 2016, and 2017 to locate and retrieve them. These diplomatic documents are of significant value in that they provide both detailed information and wide coverage, from different locations and on various topics. Further, the information offered is unique in a number of ways. First, the events were recorded from the perspective of Germans, citizens of a country that was a close ally of Japan, and second, these documents are not included in any other source. As such, these archival primary sources represent an invaluable addition to the research literature on the Nanjing Massacre and will undoubtedly benefit researchers and scholars for generations to come.
