The L6/40 Tank was the only true Italian light tank of World War II. Used during the Second World War mainly by the Regio Esercito, which employed it in practically all theaters of war: North and East Africa, Russia, the Balkans and the rest of Europe. Used mainly as a reconnaissance vehicle from the spring of 1941 until the armistice with the Allies in September 1943. A vehicle originally designed for mountain operations, it soon proved unsuitable for the operations to which it was entrusted. Even before it went into action, it was obsolete both in terms of armament and weak armour.

Für die Arbeiter und ihre Familien wurden auf Rügen neue Häuser mit 1200 Wohnungen gebaut.Vor allem die sowjetische Seite nutzte die Fähre für Militärgüter und transportierte mit den Schiffen auch Atomwaffen. Erst nach der Wende erfuhr die Öffentlichkeit, dass beim Bau der fünf Fähren auf der Mathias-Thesen-Werft in Wismar unter Deck geheime Truppentrans- porträume eingerichtet worden waren. Dort gab es Platz für 300 Soldaten.

The Far Distant Ships, first published in 1950, recounts the often overlooked but vital contribution made by the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) to the Allied victory in World War II. Especially critical in protecting the endless convoys crossing the North Atlantic from the US to Great Britain, the Canadian navy used its limited men and ships to their utmost. Dies ist die Geschichte von Generalleutnant Hans Degen. Am 18. Februar 1899 als Sohn eines Zollbeamten in Rosenheim geboren, trat er nach dem Schulbesuch des humanistischen Gymnasiums in Lohr mit 17 Jahren als Fahnenjunker in das 2. bayerische Jägerbataillon des bayerischen Jägerregiments 1 in Aschaffenburg ein, bei welchem er mit dem übergeordneten Deutschen Alpenkorps zwischen 1917 und 1918 als Gruppen- und Zugführer in Rumänien, Italien und Serbien zum Fronteinsatz kam. Als Leutnant und Kompanieführer wurde er im August 1918 in der Abwehrschlacht an der Somme verwundet.Nach Kriegsende kam Degen als Adjutant des III. Bataillons des Infanterieregiments 45 nach Aschaffenburg, um am 1. Januar 1921 in die Reichswehr übernommen zu werden. Nun folgten militärische Verwendungen als Zugführer und stellvertretender Kompaniechef in München und Würzburg, sowie eine Führergehilfenausbildung im Wehrkreis VII und auf der Kriegsakademie in Berlin, die ihn sowohl zum Truppen- als auch zum Generalstabsdienst in Friedens- und Kriegszeiten qualifizierten.Zunächst versah er seinen militärischen Dienst als Kompanieführer im Gebirgsjägerregiment 100 der 1. Gebirgsdivision, um dann als Ia unter dem österreichischen General Valentin Feurstein die 2. Gebirgsdivision in Innsbruck aus der Taufe zu heben.Mit der 1. Gebirgsdivision des Generals Ludwig Kübler bestritt er den Frankreichfeldzug, um dann als Generalstabschef des VI. Armeekorps im Russlandfeldzug zum Einsatz zu kommen. Als Generalstabschef des XIX. Gebirgsarmeekorps unter dem General der Gebirgstruppe Ferdinand Schörner an der Eismeerfront eingesetzt, übernahm er dort die von ihm mitgeformte 2. Gebirgsdivision, mit der er nach der Verlegung an die Oberrheinfront während der Abwehrschlacht in den Vogesen mit dem Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes ausgezeichnet wurde, bevor er in amerikanische Kriegsgefangenschaft geriet.

Wilhelm Spindler gehörte vom ersten bis zum letzten Tag seiner militärischen Soldatenlaufbahn der 1. Gebirgsdivision an. Im Polen-, Frankreich-, Jugoslawien- und Russlandfeldzug wurde er zunächst als Zugführer und später als Kompaniechef insbesondere in der 13. Kompanie des Gebirgsjägerregiments 98 eingesetzt. Vom Juli 1943 bis zum August 1944 war er Kommandeur des Gebirgsjägerbataillons 54 auf dem Balkan und von Oktober 1944 bis zum Kriegsende des Gebirgsjägerregiments 99 während der schweren Abwehrkampfe auf dem Balkan und in Ungarn bevor er im Marz 1945 verwundet wurde.Während ihres Kampfeinsatzes im Zweiten Weltkrieg wurden 38 Angehörige der 1. Gebirgsdivision mit dem Ritterkreuz zum Eisernen Kreuz ausgezeichnet. Einer von ihnen war Wilhelm Spindler, der am 21. Dezember 1940 als Leutnant und Ordonnanzoffizier im Stab des III. Bataillons des Gebirgsjägerregiments 99 diese hohe Auszeichnung erhielt.Mit dem begehrten Eichenlaub zum Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes wurden nur drei Angehörige der Stammdivision der deutschen Gebirgstruppe ausgezeichnet - und zwar der Generalleutnant Hubert Lanz am 23. Dezember 1942 als Kommandeur der 1. Gebirgsdivision und der Major Harald von Hirschfeld am selben Tag als Kommandeur des II. Bataillons des Gebirgsjägerregiments 982, sowie der Oberstleutnant Wilhelm Spindler als Kommandeur des Gebirgsjägerregiments 99 am 31. Januar 1945 für seinen Kampfeinsatz um eine beherrschende Höhe.

Dies ist die Geschichte von Oberleutnant Maximilian Burghartswieser. Geboren am 10. Juni 1914 in Ruhpolding im Chiemgau, trat er nach einer Ausbildung zum Maurer am 1. November 1934 am Standort Bad Reichenhall in die 11. Kompanie des Münchner Infanterieregimentes ein. Am 16. Oktober 1935 kam er zur 10. Kompanie des neu aufgestellten Gebirgsjägerregiments 100. Als Skifahrer und Alpinist absolvierte er von April 1936 bis Ende April 1937 alle erforderlichen Kurse der Heeresbergführerausbildung und wurde am 10. Dezember 1937 zum Heeresbergführer ernannt. Damit gehörte er zu einer kleinen bergsteigerischen Elite von nur knapp 400 Soldaten der Wehrmacht, die das begehrte Heeresbergführerabzeichen an ihrer Uniform tragen durften.Der Polenfeldzug führte Maximilian Burghartswieser mit der 1. Gebirgsdivision bis vor die Tore Lembergs. Am 1. Oktober 1939 zum Feldwebel befördert, wurde er am 25. Oktober 1939 mit dem Eisernen Kreuz II. Klasse ausgezeichnet. Der Frankreichfeldzug führte Burghartswieser mit der 1. Gebirgsdivision über den Oise-Aisne-Kanal, die Aisne und die Marne bis in die Gegend von Bourges. Für Tapferkeit vor dem Feind wurde ihm am 19. Juni 1940 das Eiserne Kreuz I. Klasse verliehen.Durch Abgabe seiner Kompanie im Gebirgsjägerregiment 100 kam Burghartswieser zur neu aufgestellten 5. Gebirgsdivision unter Generalmajor Julius Ringel. Mit dieser Division nahm er am Balkanfeldzug 1941 und dem Durchbruch durch die Metaxaslinie teil, auf den das Unternehmen "Merkur", der Angriff auf die Insel Kreta folgte. Für seine gefechtsentscheidende, schneidige Waffentat als Oberfeldwebel und Zugführer bei der Erstürmung der gegnerischen Stellungen während des Angriffs auf Galatas am 25. Mai 1941 wurde Burghartswieser als Oberfeldwebel und Stoßtruppführer das Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes verliehen.Der nächste Einsatz führte Burghartswieser im Rahmen der Heeresgruppe Nord mit seiner Division als Rollbahnfeuerwehr bis vor die Tore Leningrads. Bei erbitterten Kämpfen im Newabogen fiel Burghartswieser als Leutnant und Zugführer in der 7. Kompanie des Gebirgsjägerregiments 100 am 22. August 1942 tötlich getroffen durch Herzschuss. Posthum wurde er mit Wirkung vom 31. August 1942 noch zum Oberleutnant befördert.

Über 40.000 Objekte aus Kamerun (darunter Waffen, Musikinstrumente, Statuen, Alltagsgegenstände, Handschriften, Schmuckstücke u.v.m.) werden heute in öffentlichen Museen der Bundesrepublik Deutschland aufbewahrt - der größte Bestand weltweit. Seit der deutschen Kolonialzeit (1886-1916) lagern die Stücke in den Depots der Institutionen. Sie wurden bisher meist nicht gezeigt und auch nicht in Publikationen zugänglich gemacht.Die Autor:innen aus verschiedenen Disziplinen (Geografie, Geschichte, Museumsgeschichte, Ethnologie, Sprachwissenschaft) zeichnen erstmalig diese nicht sichtbare Präsenz von Kamerun in deutschen Museen nach. Damit wird auch nachvollzogen, was die Abwesenheit des Kulturerbes für Kamerun bedeutet. Zahlreiche Karten, Schaubilder und Grafiken veranschaulichen die geografische und statistische Verteilung des materiellen Kulturerbes von Kamerun in Deutschland. Ergänzt werden sie durch Biografien der damaligen Akteure und einen Bildteil mit Fotos der Objekte.Das ProjektDie Publikation basiert auf dem Projekt »Umgekehrte Sammlungsgeschichte. Kunst und Kultur aus Kamerun in deutschen Museen« der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft unter Leitung von Albert Gouaffo (Université de Dschang) und Bénédicte Savoy (Technische Universität Berlin).
