Scientific Study from the year 2020 in the subject Pedagogy - School Pedagogics, , language: English, abstract: This action research aimed to assess the implementation of Disaster Risk Reduction Education activities and its effects to the lives of the learners at Buaya Elementary School, Buaya, Lapu-Lapu City during the School Year 2019-2020 as basis for an action plan. This utilized the descriptive survey method in which a self-made survey questionnaire was used as the primary source in gathering the data. The respondents of this study were the 50 learners of the said school. The different statistical tools used were percentage, weighted mean and T-test.The findings revealed that the respondent¿s awareness and knowledge of the practices on what to do before-during-after disasters like fire, flood, typhoon and earthquake were very much knowledgeable. It also publicized that the level of awareness among respondents on the DRR activities such as lecture and video presentation, picture and story show, drawing and coloring, DRR jingle and Evacuation Drills were very much enhanced. There was no significant mean difference between the perception of the respondent¿s groups on the activities that enhanced the DRR.It was concluded that through DRR Education, the learners may be able to easily build their knowledge on various natural disasters and through the use and proper application of DRR activities, their interest and desire will increase in order to take appropriate action for disaster preparedness and mitigation, thus, reducing its risks and impacts. Based on the findings and conclusion, it is highly recommended that the action plan be adopted.

Geogr., Geomorphologie, Umweltforschung, Note: 1,0, Universität Salzburg, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Die folgende Seminararbeit beschäftigt sich mit der Agrarlandgewinnung durch Flussregulierungen in Österreich. Dazu wird zu anfangs kurz auf die Entstehung der heutigen Alpentäler sowie auf die Ursprünge der Flussregulierungen im Alpenraum eingegangen sowie etablierte Techniken der Flussregulierung während des späten 18. und 19. Jahrhunderts beschrieben. Anschließend soll anhand von drei österreichischen Flüssen ¿ nämlich der Donau, der Enns und der Traun ¿ gezeigt werden, wie Flüsse in den letzten zwei Jahrhunderten reguliert wurden und welche Auswirkungen diese Eingriffe in den natürlichen Verlauf der Flüsse mit sich brachten. Österreich ist einerseits als Alpenland bekannt, da 62,8% der gesamten Staatsfläche von den Alpen eingenommen werden. Gleichzeitig wird Österreich in der zweiten Verszeile der Bundeshymne als "Land am Strome" gerühmt, weshalb es offenbar auch für seine weitläufigen Flusssysteme und Süßwasserreservoire bekannt ist. Das gesamte Fließgewässernetz weist eine Länge von über 100.000 Kilometern auf. Allein die Donau nimmt davon etwa 350 Kilometern in Österreich ein, an zweiter Stelle liegt die Mur mit 343 Kilometern. Wenn man also bedenkt, dass beinahe zwei Drittel der österreichischen Staatsfläche gebirgig, 47,6% der Staatsfläche bewaldet sind und das Land von einem 100.000 Kilometer langen Flusssystem durchzogen wird, so stellt sich die Frage, wo sich überhaupt noch Platz für Industrie-, Wohn-, Verkehrs- oder Agrarflächen findet. Vor allem die Flüsse, zum Teil schnell fließend und mäandrierend, stellten in der Geschichte der Landwirtschaft immer wieder Probleme dar, was die Bevölkerung veranlasste, Flussregulierungen durchzuführen und Flächen somit urbar zu machen.

Colonel Golan Vach, head of a unit of the Israel Defense Forces that specializes in search and rescue operations, had never seen a disaster zone like the crumbled condo building in Surfside, Florida, in his more than 20 years of military experience. Colonel Vach's team, the National Rescue Unit, arrived in Miami early on Sunday, three days after Champlain Tower South partially collapsed without warning while people slept early on June 24, 2021. Once at the site, they found a massive heap of fragmented concrete and mangled metal, with children's toys and other personal belongings strewn about. In it, they hoped to find and rescue dozens of missing people in the rubble. "It's one of the most difficult and complicated situations that I've ever seen," Colonel Vach, who has commanded his unit for four years, said upon arrival to the site. Joining forces with the hundreds of American first responders and a team of Mexican rescuers, the Israelis have spent every waking hour either sifting through the four-story pile of debris or meeting with the families of the missing, with small breaks for sleep. Several families had expressed hope the Israeli team, renowned for skills honed during rescue operations at buildings damaged by warfare, would join the frantic search for survivors. To promptly prepare for the operation, Colonel Vach said the teams studied the structure of Champlain Tower South while still in Israel and built 3D models of the 40-year-old high-rise. The team then carefully replicated the manner in which the tower appeared to have collapsed, aiming to understand how to excavate the site with the highest probability of finding survivors. Colonel Vach's team consulted with the families to get the best idea of where their relatives might have been within their apartments at the time the building collapsed. The purpose of this intelligence is to get the first responders to understand exactly where the digging needs to take place. Once they know where they are on the site, the crews penetrated meters of concrete in an effort to reach the bedrooms and search for possible cavities where survivors may have found a measure of protection. The book recounts conversations with family members awaiting word about their loved ones. The IDF delegation was committed to being transparent with them as the possibility of finding victims alive grew slimmer with every hour that passed. Disaster response is a whole community effort and FEMA worked very closely with Colonel Vach's IDF delegation. The American and Israeli units worked side by side and created a tremendous bond that is sure to last a lifetime due to respect and perseverance during this disaster.
